Garden City, Idaho, USASouthwest Idaho

Shadow Valley Golf Course offers an 18-hole test framed by high desert hills and towering pines. Known for its small, undulating greens and thoughtfully placed bunkers, it provides a challenging yet approachable layout for players of varied skill levels, set amid a dramatic landscape near Garden City, Idaho.

Course Overview

Shadow Valley Golf Course presents an engaging challenge amid the rugged beauty of Garden City, Idaho. This 18-hole, public layout stretches across a high desert landscape where towering pines and cottonwoods punctuate the terrain, contrasting with the undulating hills that shape each hole. The course’s combination of tree-lined fairways and elevated greens demands precision from tee to green, rewarding thoughtful shot selection and steady composure. Players encounter a diverse range of holes, from tighter, strategically guarded par 4s to long, sweeping par 5s that invite aggressive risk-reward plays.

The elevated greens at Shadow Valley are small yet complex, featuring abundant contours that test putting skill and course management. Bunkers are thoughtfully placed to protect key approach angles, adding to the tactical nature of the layout. While the course maintains a rugged high desert atmosphere, the well-maintained fairways and conditioning throughout are commendable; recent rounds have noted consistent green smoothness even during warm summer stretches.

Shadow Valley caters well to golfers who appreciate a test without forfeiting playability. The layout challenges low handicappers with its length and precision requirements while remaining approachable for intermediate players who can leverage smarter strategy over raw power. Pace of play can fluctuate, particularly on weekends, which suggests planning tee times during off-peak hours for a more relaxed experience.

While the course value has risen in recent seasons, the quality of the practice facilities and the welcoming clubhouse environment add practical appeal for visitors seeking a complete day of golf. Walking is encouraged during less crowded times, though the course’s significant elevation changes and sizeable acreage mean a cart is recommended for comfort and efficiency under most circumstances.

Ultimately, Shadow Valley presents a distinct golf experience in Idaho’s high desert region, blending natural scenery with a thoughtful layout that respects both challenge and enjoyment. The interplay of trees, hills, and greens crafts a compelling journey through 18 holes that keeps players engaged from the first tee to the final putt.

Course Highlights

The course’s small, undulating greens are among the most distinctive elements, demanding precise putting and approach shots. The routing showcases a striking balance of tree-lined fairways and expansive high desert vistas with varied elevation. Strategically positioned bunkers add to the course’s strategic depth. 81 bucks a round and 25 to share a cart in March. Little steep in price for what it is. Practice facility is nice and very clean organized clubhouse. I suggest walking.

Great course, though it seems the prices here have increased faster over the last year or two than other places in the area. The course is in ok shape but you'd expect more for the price. Pace of play can sometimes be an issue, they really shouldn't allow anyone to walk unless it's a slow time, we had 2-3 groups backed up because of a group that was walking on a Saturday afternoon. the course is just too large and hilly for walking.

In from out of town as a single. Was concerned when they told me to just show up and they will get me out, you can’t book anywhere locally as a single. They were super helpful and I barely had to wait. Course was phenomenal and provided a much different layout front to back. Not a bad hole on the property. Great experience from the moment I pulled in to when I left!

I had the opportunity to play one course while in Boise. Decided on Shadow Valley. Zero houses on the course (except for a few up on the hillside). I preferred the front nine over the back…… though the back did have a few really cool holes. Course was in good shape for mid July. Guy at the pro shop was about as nice and helpful as you could ask for. Really went over and beyond to explain the course. If you get a chance….. make sure you play here. You will not regret it. Lots of elevation on the front. Back was a bit more on flat side. Price point was great ($70 for green fee, cart and logo ball) for a top notch course. Thank you.

Beautiful tree lined course. In great shape. A lot of very interesting holes. Scenery is wonderful with the pines and cottonwoods set against the high desert hills. Fun to play but you can’t relax out there or you will be in the trees all day. Small greens with plenty of undulation.

The course was in fantastic shape! This was very impressive with the string of 100 degree days the area has had. Greens were soft and smooth!
