Course Overview
The Oaks Golf Course, located in the tranquil outskirts of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, offers a compelling mix of challenge and charm across its well-maintained 18 holes. This public course presents a diverse layout, blending classic parkland characteristics with subtle touches of rolling hills and woodlands that frame many fairways. The landscape is inviting without overwhelming, allowing players of varying skill levels to test their abilities while enjoying an accessible and thoughtful design.
From the opening tee shot, golfers encounter a course that encourages strategic thinking rather than just power. Fairways are generous enough to reward precision, while greens feature subtle undulations that demand careful approach shots and an attentive putter. Elevated tees and thoughtful bunker placement contribute to the dynamic interplay between risk and reward, although the course remains inviting enough for higher handicaps seeking a pleasant round.
The Oaks' setting creates a relaxed atmosphere punctuated by seasonal breaks of color and gentle breezes that might nudge your ball off line if you’re not steady on your stance. Several holes skirt natural wooded areas, adding visual contrast and a quiet sense of retreat from the day-to-day. These elements make for an immersive golfing experience, where focus on shot execution blends smoothly with an appreciation of the surroundings.
Amenities complement the on-course experience, with a friendly clubhouse offering tasteful dining options and a spacious deck that overlooks several key holes. The staff’s reputation for attentiveness enhances visits, whether you’re preparing for a competitive round or a casual outing. Beverage carts circulate regularly, ensuring hydration and refreshments are always within reach.
For those planning a visit, walking is encouraged and the mostly flat terrain accommodates a comfortable pace even when carrying a bag. The course is undergoing improvements in some areas, so checking current conditions ahead of time will help set expectations.
The Oaks Golf Course strikes a balance between approachable fun and true golf strategy, making it a rewarding destination for locals and visitors alike.

Played The Oaks Golf Course last week for a charity outing and had an absolutely fantastic experience. The course itself is beautiful—challenging, unique, and impeccably maintained. Every hole kept us on our toes in the best way. The staff was top-notch. Our crew was never short on drinks thanks to the attentive beverage carts making frequent rounds (huge win). After the round, the clubhouse setup was perfect for the post-golf festivities—inviting, spacious, and ideal for mingling. Great course, great service, and a great time all around. Can’t wait to go back!

We had the most perfect and beautiful wedding reception at The Oaks. The staff, arbor tent, and grounds truly make a special atmosphere. Melissa, Katie, and Emily were incredible to work with. They are patient, kind, responsive, and did a great job of hyping me and my husband up for our wedding at The Oaks. We also loved the tasting event they did with many of the other wedding couples to give us all a chance to try out their dishes! Our guests were impressed with how open and grand the arbor tent was, how large the dance floor was, and they loved the food catered by The Oaks. We had a large wedding and there was hardly ever a line at the bar because their bartending staff was on their game too! And please make sure to schedule some time for sunset photos on the grounds, ours turned out incredible! My husband, sister, and brother-in-law have also gone to play the course at The Oaks multiple times and have always loved it. We eat there on occasion and the food and service is great. Thank you so much to everyone at The Oaks!

The Oaks is completely repairing their course. Typically a nice place to play. Paying $88 for the shape of this course now is something that should be evaluated when playing this. Seems all 18 holes have multiple spots under repair. Would like to play next year when it’s done.

Very challenging but enjoyed. Nice bland new carts but it has sensitive gear so please be careful not to make it neutral by accident.
