Course Overview

Blackwolf Links in Anawalt, West Virginia, offers a distinctive golfing experience that blends a charming, rustic setting with approachable playability. This public 18-hole course unfolds across rolling terrain typical of Appalachian foothills, where elevation changes and natural woodlands shape a layout that demands thoughtful shot placement without overwhelming players of all skill levels. The course embraces a classic parkland feel, featuring well-maintained fairways framed by mature trees and native grasses that gently sway with the mountain breeze. Despite its modest yardage and absence of par-5s, Blackwolf Links challenges golfers to control trajectory and precision, particularly around greens guarded by strategically placed bunkers and natural water hazards that quietly test focus and patience.

The landscape reveals pockets of flowing streams and small creeks that quietly wrap through several holes, contributing both aesthetic appeal and subtle strategic demands. Blackwolf Links is equally rewarding for local enthusiasts and visiting players looking for a friendly, engaging round in a peaceful setting. Walkers appreciate the well-kept paths and relatively gentle elevation shifts, paired with a layout that encourages a steady pace. The clubhouse exudes a welcoming atmosphere, where hospitality stands out as much as the course conditions.

Amenities include a modest pro shop and practice facilities where players can sharpen their short game before taking on the course. While Blackwolf Links does not boast extensive resort-style features, its strength lies in delivering a straightforward, well-maintained course that honors the spirit of accessible golf. The staff’s warmth and knowledge further enhance the experience, inviting players to savor not only the game but the slower moments—conversations on the porch, quiet reflections near the creek.

For golfers planning a visit, comfortable walking shoes are recommended as walking the course is encouraged. Early spring through late fall offers the best playing conditions, as winter can bring seasonal closures. Blackwolf Links remains a steady choice for those seeking an authentic, down-to-earth round with a balance of challenge and enjoyment.

Course Highlights

Simply the best little golf course in the area. Price, greens, staff... Everything feel just right about that course. Too bad there's no Par 5 but I can live with those 4's and 3's. Will be back very soon!
