Red Hawk Golf Club delivers a challenging desert course experience that blends rugged terrain with precise playability. Its 18 holes wind through narrow fairways, rolling contours, and dramatic views of the Organ Mountains, crafting a round that tests strategy and finesse.
Course Overview
Red Hawk Golf Club presents a compelling desert golf experience just outside Las Cruces, New Mexico. This 18-hole championship course cuts through rugged terrain that challenges players with narrow fairways and rolling contours carved into the high desert landscape. The course layout demands thoughtful shot placement more than sheer power, inviting golfers to navigate its strategic design amid panoramic views of the Organ Mountains to the east.
The fairways at Red Hawk combine firmness and speed, typical of desert courses, with tightly mowed turf that rewards accurate drives. Interspersed are several artificial ponds that serve as both water hazards and visual focal points, while natural desert vegetation and rocky outcrops frame many holes. The course encourages a methodical approach, where managing elevation changes and reading undulating greens are key to scoring well.
Playability at Red Hawk is balanced for a range of golfers, though low handicappers will appreciate the precise demands of the greens, which run true and break with subtlety. The layout avoids excessive length, favoring control and finesse. Several holes, most notably the par-3 14th, stand out for their engaging challenges and memorable scenery.
Red Hawk's staff maintain the course with evident care, ensuring both conditioning and pace of play meet the expectations of serious golfers. While some portions of the property have undergone renovation, the ongoing work aims to enhance the overall experience without detracting from day-to-day play.
Amenities include a clubhouse with dining options and a well-appointed pro shop. Golfers are encouraged to wear spikes suitable for desert terrain and stay hydrated under the regional sun. Cart paths are well-maintained, though walking can be a rewarding option for those eager to absorb the surroundings.
For players seeking a thoughtful round in a distinctive southwestern setting, Red Hawk Golf Club offers a test of skill grounded in natural beauty and clever course design. Preparation and patience are rewarded here amid rolling dunes and sharp desert air, where every hole presents an opportunity to engage both mind and muscle.
Course Highlights
The course features desert-style design with narrow fairways protected by natural rock features and native desert flora. The 14th hole stands out with its dramatic par-3 layout over water, demanding both precision and nerve. The course captures expansive vistas of the Organ Mountains, integrating elevation changes to challenge playersβ shot-making and pace-of-play strategies.

Great course, get there early or else you will not get to finish your round

Course is nice a green but they're modifying the course and there are bulldozers working literally up by the green when you're trying to play; workers don't take into consideration when you're on the green or approaching. Literally saw my friend's ball covered up with dirt on our approach. π

I played here a few times in January 25. Great fun. Uncrowded, great customer service, course in great shape. Restaurant was good. Beautiful rugged desert landscape.

This course is probably the best in the area. The fairways are lush and great to hit from. The greens are excellent and very challenging. There are some areas of ground under repair but itβs just because they are working to make the course even better. I will definitely make another trip to Las Cruces to play this course again.

A very nice and smart-designed course in the middle of desert ποΈ. Holes are built around few artificial ponds, the fairway is relatively narrow and hilly, but the route is very nicely connecting the 18 holes. Particularly the 14th hole, β³ will definitely want to play here more.
