Course Overview

Ponemah Green Family Golf Center in Amherst, New Hampshire, offers an approachable avenue for golfers of all ages and skill levels to enjoy the game in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Designed with families and beginners firmly in mind, this public, 18-hole course delivers a variety of hole layouts that balance straightforward play with enough natural features to foster steady improvement and genuine enjoyment.

The course stretches over approximately 5,000 yards with a modest par of 68, making it inviting for juniors and novices while still providing moments of interest for more experienced players. Its layout weaves through gentle woodland areas and incorporates calm water features that occasionally demand strategic shot choices, adding subtle challenges without overwhelming newcomers. Tree-lined fairways provide shelter from wind, allowing players to focus on ball control and course management.

Ponemah Green’s fairways and greens reflect consistent maintenance, though certain tee boxes show signs of wear thanks to frequent play, a common trade-off at heavily used family courses. The driving range includes both grass and covered mats, offering a practical space to warm up or sharpen short-game skills. The friendly staff maintain a positive vibe, welcoming visitors with helpful advice and ensuring an unhurried, family-centered experience.

While weekend afternoons can be busy with occasional slowdowns, especially during holidays, Ponemah Green’s management offers rain checks to guests when play is interrupted. Golfers planning visits are advised to allow some extra time for potential delays and to wear bug repellent for the wooded holes toward dusk. Walking the course is straightforward, with mostly flat terrain suitable for players carrying or pushing clubs.

Additional amenities include a clubhouse offering casual food and ice cream, creating a comfortable spot for families to gather post-round. Ponemah Green Family Golf Center stands out as a solid community staple where learning and leisurely play thrive in equal measure, making it an appealing destination for anyone seeking a fun and accessible golf outing outside of New England’s more demanding championship courses.

Great course for family and kids learning. Friendly and helpful young guy at the desk. Reasonable rates. But as others said, the tee times were too close together. It was a log jam the whole time with up to 3 groups at once waiting at 1 hole. It seems like tee times 10-12 minutes apart would be better than 8 minutes? Just an observation to consider.

Practice balls are a little old but the range is generally in good shape. The gentleman in the pro shop is super sweet and kind. Love that they have actual grass on a part of the range as well.

Great beginner golf course. Offers a good variety of holes that are well maintained. There’s a good amount of woods/water features so if you go to late at night it can get very buggy! The driving range is also very nice and it is also covered.

Great experience. Brand new carpets, fun courses, beautiful scenery, and very friendly staff. The option to get food and ice cream after is a fantastic touch!

The course itself is nice enough as it's marketed as a "family golf course" that's relatively cheap. The greens aren't very well maintained and the tee boxes are a mess, but it's cheap and cost appropriate. The grounds keepers often turn sprinklers on and due course maintenance in the middle of the day and interrupt your play. As a family course welcome to beginners and children, you can usually expect delays ranging from 10-30 minutes during weekends/busy times. On Memorial Day this year, the delay was over 2 hours with absolutely zero moderation from staff. This course can be played by beginners in 1.5-2 hours - there is no world in which it should take 3.5 hours to play through. The only reason it doesn't get a 1 star review is because they offered a rain check due to their delay. The delay was beyond reasonable even for a holiday on a family course.
