Course Overview

Located in Middletown, Rhode Island, Wanumetonomy Golf & Country Club offers an 18-hole championship layout that challenges golfers while rewarding thoughtful play. This private course unfolds along a coastal setting, where gentle ocean breezes influence club selection and strategic approach shots. The design emphasizes traditional links-style features, with undulating fairways framed by natural sandy areas and well-positioned bunkers that guard each green, inviting a measured game rather than brute force.

The landscape presents sweeping views over the water, enhancing both the visual appeal and the playing experience. The greens demand attention to detail; their subtle breaks and smooth surfaces require careful reading and precision putting. Fairways are crisp and well maintained, while the surrounding rough tests accuracy without overwhelming players less familiar with links courses.

Wanumetonomy’s layout is notably approachable for a broad range of skill levels. Casual players will find ample room to play, while lower handicaps will appreciate the strategic challenges built into tee placements and hazard exposures. Seasonal conditions add texture to the course, especially when ocean winds pick up in late afternoon rounds, encouraging a thoughtful tempo and shot shaping.

Amenities at the club include a welcoming clubhouse that serves as a comfortable base for relaxation before and after golf. The staff's professionalism and attention to course conditioning ensure each round feels well-managed and enjoyable. Walkers will find the routing accommodating, with clear paths linking holes and minimal elevation change, while those preferring carts can request them based on availability.

Whether you seek a contemplative round influenced by nature’s elements or a well-kept private venue to hone your skills, Wanumetonomy Golf & Country Club captures the essence of coastal Rhode Island golf without compromising playability or comfort. The course invites thoughtful engagement with both its land and sea breezes, making it a distinctive experience for members and their guests.

Wish they allowed the military members they bought the club from to play there every now and then. Or at least give them a courtesy email/phone call back when they deny their membership requests. Very disappointing and very un-American..

Course was in immaculate shape! Fairways were cut short, rough was difficult, greens were slick and rolled true. The most underrated course in RI.
