Chimera Golf Club

Henderson, Nevada, USASouthern Nevada

Chimera Golf Club offers a compelling desert golf experience just outside Las Vegas, blending strategic holes with lush fairways and undulating greens. With 18 holes sprawled across nearly 7,100 yards, the course welcomes players seeking both challenge and accessibility amid distinctive Southwestern scenery.

Course Overview

Chimera Golf Club presents a compelling blend of desert landscape and carefully manicured fairways that challenge and engage golfers of diverse skill levels. Located in Henderson, just outside Las Vegas, this public 18-hole course offers a thoughtful balance of natural arroyos and sculpted greens, inviting a thoughtful approach over sheer power. The layout unfolds across just over 7,000 yards of desert terrain, where sweeping vistas and subtle elevation changes introduce a quiet complexity to each round.

The course is designed to encourage strategic play, with wide fairways that narrow unexpectedly and well-placed bunkers guarding the undulating greens. Wind often plays a subtle yet consistent role, demanding attention to club selection and shot trajectory. Players will find certain holes that demand precision from tee to green, while others welcome controlled aggression, making Chimera suitable for a broad range of handicaps without sacrificing challenge for the low handicappers.

Conditioning is a priority here; fairways remain lush despite the desert environment, and greens are consistently kept true, though occasionally slower than tournament pace. Amenities include a well-appointed clubhouse that features the popular Slice19 restaurant, providing a casual spot for relaxation post-round. On-course service features beer and snack carts that cruise the fairways, adding a touch of comfort during warm Nevada afternoons.

Accessibility is a strong suit of Chimera, located about 25 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, making it a convenient choice for travelers seeking an authentic desert golf experience without straying far from the city’s amenities. The course encourages walking but offers carts to accommodate pace-of-play and comfort, especially under the desert sun.

For those planning a visit, early morning tee times can help evade the midday heat and capitalize on softer winds. Attention is advised on pace-of-play, as afternoon rounds sometimes experience bottlenecks, but overall, Chimera stands as a rewarding test of golf framed by Nevada’s stark beauty and well-maintained turf.

Course Highlights

Chimera Golf Club’s desert-style layout combines natural desert washes and granite outcroppings with carefully shaped fairways and greens, offering holes where wind and strategic positioning dominate. The course balances playable wide fairways with demanding approach shots to challenging greens. Notable is the smooth transition between rugged desert and maintained turf, alongside a modern clubhouse and popular on-course service.

I haven’t played this course in a few years, but it’s still as good as I remember. They hosted our small group and everything was perfect and seamless. Course conditions were excellent and the greens were a little on the slow side which helped our group who weren’t looking for tour pace. One of our foursomes lagged behind a bit and the Marshalls were courteous to let us know to keep up to group in front. Beer cart was available often and post game beers were nice in the clubhouse with a snack. I recommend this course and has great value in comparison to a lot of Vegas area courses. Ride from the strip is very easy and took 25 min max.

My brother and I stopped to play Chimera on our way through town. We have played Chimera since it was Tuscany and always loved it. This time not so much. The starter didn't care at all, told us he'd be back, wasn't in a uniform and drove his own personal cart. The marshal drove his cart into us as we were teeing off then stopped and asked us to park closer to the curb so he could get by without driving off the path. A few holes later as we were teeing off the drink cart drove by us through the desert as we were teeing off. I expect better from Chimera. Don't think we will be back to what was our favorite Vegas area course.

I don't ever write reviews but this definitely had some of the best green conditions out here in the Vegas area and I highly recommend. Quick pace, staff and everyone is friendly. Great atmosphere overall. Highly recommend for a nice weekend day!

Tee times are every 7 minutes or so resulting in very slow play on a weekend. Gave up after 4 hours and only 12 holes.

We are from Chicago and loved playing in Vegas at Chimera Golf Club. The course was absolutely beautiful, challenging, fun and such a good time! Cannot wait to go back. Their restaurant Slice19 was also outstanding!

Very nice golf course. Fairways and greens were in good condition. However, it took 2 hours to play 4 holes... we ended up getting in front of two other groups, which sped us up some, but we were still waiting. Finished 14 holes from 1pm to 530. The last 3 holes were played mostly in the dark.

Chimera was a wonderful course. I'm new to the course and from the moment I arrived I was treated great. The staff was very pleasant, professional and courteous. I had questions since it was the first time I was there and they were all answered promptly. The course is in great shape, loved it. The rates are super reasonable for a course in this area and in such great condition. I will definitely be back.
