Salt Creek Golf Retreat

Nashville, Indiana, USASouthern Indiana

Salt Creek Golf Retreat offers a well-maintained 18-hole public resort course that combines flat, friendly opening holes with a more dramatic, hilly back nine. With comfortable onsite condominiums and a lively clubhouse, it welcomes golfers of all skill levels for both play and relaxation.

Course Overview

Salt Creek Golf Retreat presents an 18-hole experience that blends approachable play with a quietly demanding layout set against the gently rolling hills of southern Indiana. This public resort course invites golfers of all skill levels to engage with a landscape that shifts character dramatically from the flat, straightforward front nine to a back nine rich with elevation changes and strategic challenges. The terrain subtly tests club selection and shot shaping, rewarding thoughtful positioning without punishing less experienced players, making it an ideal destination for families, groups, and weekend travelers.

The course’s conditioning consistently receives praise, with fairways held in excellent shape year-round and greens that provide a firm but receptive putting surface. Fairway bunkers and natural waterways strategically influence many doglegs and approach shots, while a healthy mix of tree-lined stretches and open vistas keeps each hole visually interesting. On the back nine, sudden rises and drops push players to adjust their stance and trajectory, offering a satisfying contrast that prevents the round from feeling repetitive.

Salt Creek’s signature holes are highlights in their own right. The 14th, a par-4 featuring a dramatic uphill second shot to a green protected by deep bunkers, demands precision and courage. A series of elevated tees on the closing holes reward those who manage their nerves and distance well, bringing the course to a memorable finish.

Beyond the fairways, the on-site accommodations add ease and character to any visit. Clean, comfortable condos place golfers mere steps from the first tee and the lively clubhouse. The 19th hole dining area overlooks the course and offers a variety of food and drink options, making it a natural gathering spot after play. Known for its friendly atmosphere and well-maintained grounds, Salt Creek Golf Retreat has drawn repeat visitors who appreciate both its playability and welcoming environment.

For those planning a trip, it is advisable to bring insect repellent during warmer months as the course’s surrounding vegetation can invite bursts of local insect activity. The layout supports walking, but with some steep walks especially on the back nine, players comfortable with moderate hill walking will enjoy the varied topography. Avalanche fans or low handicappers seeking a steady challenge will find enough tactical options to engage their competitive edge while recreational players will appreciate the course’s forgiving nature and scenic variety.

Course Highlights

Salt Creek stands out with its transition from a relatively flat front nine to a hilly, strategically demanding back nine. The 14th hole challenges with an uphill approach guarded by deep bunkers. On-site accommodations offer convenience rarely found at public courses, and the clubhouse features a lively bar and dining area overlooking the course, ideal for post-round socializing.

The course was fun to play. Bring bug spray. The gnats swarm. Other than that I really enjoyed my visit. Would absolutely recommend. I’m working with friends to plan a return trip for a stay and play weekend!

Love this golf course. The restaurant is situated so nicely at the top of the course. Beautiful views. Front 9 flat. Back 9 very hilly and interesting! Good club house. Lots of food/drink options.

Salt Creek Golf Retreat was a blast, even in the face of Hurricane Helene. Their exceptional accommodation for our large group of 20 was nothing short of impressive. Despite the storm's approach, they went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed a full 18 holes on Friday and 36 holes on Saturday. The course itself was playable, even in the pouring rain. It was a testament to their upkeep and drainage system that we were able to tee off and enjoy the game under such adverse conditions. Their main concern with safety is the wind which is validated after we saw a 60ft tree fall across one of the cart paths on Friday. The condos were comfortable and offered excellent value (we had 4 per condo). The bar was a lively spot to unwind after a wet round. The friendly atmosphere, good food and drinks added to the overall enjoyment of our stay. They had live bands each night and plenty of TVs around the bar to watch football games! We were so impressed with our experience that we're already planning to return next year.

I was very surprised by this place. The rooms were very nice. The golf course was well maintained and fun to play. The local city was small but, with a lot of things to do and several great places to eat. I will for sure be back!
