Westchester Golf Course

Los Angeles, California, USASouthern California

Westchester Golf Course offers a compact 18-hole layout with a strong emphasis on approachable shot-making and quick play. Its unique urban setting near LAX and nighttime lighting create a golfing experience distinct to Los Angeles, welcoming players across all skill levels.

Course Overview

Westchester Golf Course offers a unique golfing experience in the heart of Los Angeles, combining accessibility with a lively, urban atmosphere. This 18-hole layout stretches approximately 4,300 yards, featuring a compact design that intertwines nine par-3s, eight par-4s, and a solitary par-5. Its shorter yardage makes it particularly approachable for beginners and those looking to refine their short game, while still providing an enjoyable challenge to more experienced players who appreciate precision over power.

The course’s distinct flavor stems from its proximity to Los Angeles International Airport, where the steady arrival and departure of aircraft bring an unmistakable energy to the environment. Although the sound of planes overhead may disrupt moments of quiet focus, it also serves as an unconventional rhythm that pulses through your round.

Westchester’s layout emphasizes quick, strategic shot-making amid well-maintained greens that have earned praise for their smoothness and responsiveness. The relatively tight footprint encourages thoughtful club selection and accuracy, especially near the greens, where strategically placed bunkers guard the scoring areas. Play here rewards creativity and patience more than brute strength.

One of Westchester’s standout features is its commitment to extending play hours with the addition of floodlights, making it one of the few courses in the area offering illuminated night rounds. This gives golfers the chance to savor cooler temperatures and quieter tee times after sunset.

The welcoming vibe is supported by attentive staff and a community that attracts players of varying skill levels, reinforcing the course as a gathering spot for both casual rounds and serious practice sessions. Walkers are common here, although the urban setting and course layout suggest comfortable, supportive shoes are advisable.

While the steady hum of air traffic might challenge concentration, many find Westchester to be an accessible, well-maintained municipal course that balances convenience with solid course conditions. Whether looking for a quick round, after-work play, or a friendly introduction to golf, Westchester Golf Course remains a practical and vibrant option within Los Angeles’ golfing scene.

Course Highlights

Westchester is distinguished by its compact 18-hole layout that blends nine par-3s with a variety of par-4s and a single par-5. The course challenges golfers’ precision in a fast-paced municipal setting just minutes from LAX, where the overhead flight path adds a distinctive urban ambiance. Its evening lighting infrastructure is a rare feature among municipal courses, extending opportunities for play into nighttime hours. Well-maintained greens and clearly defined rough areas invite players to develop short-game skills while navigating bunkers strategically positioned near scoring zones.

I’m in love with this golf course. I’m in love with Golf. This is the Disneyland for golfers. I’d rather do this than go shopping. Anyone that gave me 20,000 to go shopping I decline! This the best place on earth.

The course itself is really fun, very short 18 hole course with approx 4300 yards. We played around 4-4.5 hours with little to almost no waiting times. 9 par 3, 8 par 4 and just one par 5. absolute downside is every couple minutes extremely loud noises of the airplanes once it’s right next to the airport, this ruined the game abit for me.

Third Edit: I spoke with the manager, Chris, who assured me that the incident was an error on their part. He has addressed the issue with the staff to prevent it from happening again in the future. I appreciate his proactive approach in resolving this matter. I am changing my rating from 1 star to 5 stars. —————— I need to edit my previous post after receiving a heartwarming response from management. Apparently, arriving just 2 minutes after your scheduled tee time creates such a significant burden on their closing process that they must turn away individuals who cannot physically walk the course. I truly appreciate the Westchester team's commitment to excellence. ————- Horrible experience at Westchester Golf Course! We arrived right on time at 5:58 PM with a disabled veteran we wanted to take on the course, only to be denied a golf cart, while others in front of us were still getting theirs. The management is a complete joke and showed zero compassion. They ruined our reservation and disrespected someone who served our country. If we had any other option, we’d never come back. Avoid this place at all costs. One star is far too generous for such awful service.

After 6p.m. tee time drops down to $25 and the driving range is usually available.

It's next to LAX, so you can walk and use a cart when you have time. It's flat and the temperature is good, so you can enjoy golfing anytime.

Westchester Golf Course is a gem, especially for those who love to play after dark! The fact that they have lights makes it one of the best spots in the area for evening rounds, allowing you to enjoy the game even after the sun goes down. Beyond the convenience, the staff and fellow golfers create a welcoming and friendly environment, making it a great place for both beginners and experienced players. Whether you’re learning the game or just looking for a casual round in a relaxed setting, Westchester delivers. Well-maintained, accessible, and perfect for all skill levels—I highly recommend it!

It’s been getting better and better here. The greens have been running fast and real good for a muni. They’re defining rough in places. Play the 1st hole slow, as the wait on #2 can get lengthy.
