Hawks Landing Golf Club

Yucca Valley, California, USASouthern California Desert

Hawks Landing Golf Club provides an intimate desert golfing experience on a unique 12-hole layout in Yucca Valley. Its rugged terrain, shifting winds, and casual amenities offer players a distinct challenge and a refreshing alternative to the Palm Springs resorts.

Course Overview

Hawks Landing Golf Club offers a distinct desert golf experience with a 12-hole layout that challenges players amidst the natural ruggedness of Yucca Valley, California. Situated roughly halfway between Palm Springs and Joshua Tree, this semi-private facility embraces the unique character of the high desert landscape, where rocky outcroppings and native vegetation frame each hole with subtle yet compelling demands.

Though shorter than standard 18-hole courses, Hawks Landing invites golfers to engage with a course that emphasizes shot-making precision over brute distance. The fairways carve through undulating terrain, where desert winds often shift, demanding thoughtful club selection and controlled execution. Greens here vary in speed and contour, sometimes bearing the marks of recent aeration, which calls for adaptability in reading breaks and managing putts.

The course is approachable for players across skill levels but holds particular appeal for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path golfing challenge far removed from the more manicured resort layouts nearby. Its 12-hole design suits players who appreciate a brisk round or a spirited practice session without the time commitment of a full 18.

Amenities at Hawks Landing are centered around a casual dining experience with outdoor seating boasting expansive views of the desert horizon. The eatery serves generous portions at reasonable prices, catering to golfers and visitors alike. Though food service leans toward informal, it complements the rugged charm of the property.

Golf carts are available, but walking is common and viable given the course’s size and terrain. The muted natural colors and open spaces allow golfers to connect with the sprawling desert environment without distraction.

While the course shows signs of wear and awaits continuing maintenance improvements, it offers an authentic desert golf outing. Players planning a visit should consider timing their rounds to avoid the midday heat and bring versatile clubs to handle shifting wind and tricky greens. Hawks Landing’s blend of natural challenge and relaxed atmosphere makes it a noteworthy stop in California’s desert golf scene.

Course Highlights

Hawks Landing is distinguished by its 12-hole configuration that winds through natural desert formations, with fairways bordered by native scrub and rock. The course tests accuracy and wind management rather than length. Its setting offers striking views of the high desert, creating a distinctive ambiance compared with nearby resort golf. The clubhouse’s open-air dining complements the relaxed atmosphere with generous meals and desert vistas.

We were at this place just to have lunch. Saw on the Google with good reviews also a great outdoor dining view. Ordered and pay first at the register then sit wherever you want to sit they brought food to your table. The experience to eat at this place was good, but I wasn’t expecting I felt we had lunch at the cafeteria vibe. Everything they served our food on the paper plates and cups.. only the utensils was not disposable. I ordered soup of the day (split pea w/ham) and chef salad (for me was a huge portions) My husband ordered a mushroom Swiss burger and he said was really good burger.

The staff are amazing. The vibe here is outstanding. Super welcoming. Pretty clear they get what makes golf special - time with your family while hitting a little ball around. Our family came with two small kids and they were accommodating (just keep pace). Restaurant is so good. Definitely coming back next time we visit.

Was really excited to play this course as it had good reviews and was only half the distance to the courses in Palm Springs (from Joshua Tree), but in hindsight I think the extra 60 min might’ve been worth it. Pro shop staff was great and this course has potential, but maintenance and it only being 12 holes it fell short for the value paid. Especially not being able to play just 12. You pay for 18 and there’s no other option. I understand they were aerating the greens recently but one green was in absolute disarray. Rental clubs were only $10 which was nice but they were in rough shape. Could see myself coming back with some friends but only in a pinch.

The Pro shop made my twosome play with a single player. That single player was from 29 Palms marine base. He was so amazing to play with. Wish I really could have played with him alone.
