Course Overview

Roadrunner Dunes Golf Course offers a refreshing and approachable golfing experience in the stark beauty of the California high desert. Situated in Twentynine Palms, this nine-hole public facility stands out among desert courses for its welcoming atmosphere and steadily evolving layout. The course’s flat terrain and sandy soil create unique playing conditions, while the open skies and dry heat shape every shot with a subtle challenge brought by the desert breeze.

Though compact, Roadrunner Dunes balances simplicity with moments that test both strategy and shot execution. Golfers encounter well-placed bunkers and a variety of green complexes that invite thoughtful club selection and precise approaches. The course’s design encourages a steady pace, making it an excellent choice for beginners getting acquainted with golf’s rhythms and for casual players seeking some unhurried time on the links. The forgiving fairways and approachable par-3s offer plenty of scoring chances, while some holes demand careful navigation to avoid the desert’s natural hazards.

Beyond play, the clubhouse captures a friendly, community-driven spirit. The staff’s genuine hospitality shines through weekly events like Thursday night scrambles and Taco Tuesdays, adding a social layer that many courses at this level lack. Affordable rates and a laid-back vibe create a scene where both newcomers and seasoned players can relax and enjoy their round without pressure. The practice facilities, including a driving range with affordable buckets of balls, further support skill development.

Located on Desert Knoll Avenue, the course invites visitors to plan their rounds with the desert’s heat in mind, recommending early morning or late afternoon tees. Comfortable footwear and hydration are essential, as the course encourages walking to fully absorb the quiet desert landscape and community energy. For those seeking a golf outing that blends a down-to-earth atmosphere with incremental improvement and social connection, Roadrunner Dunes presents a distinctive, inviting option in Southern California’s desert region.

Course Highlights

The course is distinguished by its friendly local vibe, consistent improvements under new ownership, and community-oriented events such as weekly scrambles and food specials. This is one of the most low-key, low-cost, nine-hole golf courses in the hidez. Since I first played here back in late 2019 the staff and volunteers have completely transformed the old dog track into a one of the most fun, laidback, nine-hole golf courses I’ve ever played. You can’t beat the prices and the staff makes you feel right at home. For about $50 I got to hit a large bucket of range balls, play 18 holes with a cart and a 6’er of coronas on ice. I hung out for about an hour after we finished our round to check out their “taco Tuesday” family event, and the food was great! It was a perfect way to spend our afternoon. Highly recommended!

I’m new to the sport. This was my first time ever being in a golf course or range. The lady in the front desk was so kind and helpful . 10$ for a large bucket of balls. Super affordable. Overall experience is 10/10. Im coming back for sure.

A nice local golf course. Staff are all very nice and helpful. They take pride in their small 9 hole golf course in the desert. The course is slowly getting improvements and isn't half bad for the price, definitely a fun course. They have a driving range as well available. The owner makes homemade meals available a few days out of the week along with beer options. The course holds weekly scrambles and also many community events with music, food etc. Come out and show your support!

Awesome people, Thursday night scramble is a blast every week. Course has new ownership and is moving in the right direction. Priced well, cheap beer, also a cool new cement River and a pond with a ton of fish to feed. Would recommend!

Great volunteers keep it running. Needs a bigger contribution from ownership and would also benefit greatly from a professional golf course manager and Greenskeeper.
