Sewailo Golf Club

Tucson, Arizona, USASouthern Arizona

Set against Arizona’s rugged Sonoran Desert, Sewailo Golf Club blends strategic desert golf with inviting playability. Its 18-hole championship course challenges drivers and approach shots alike, framed by native flora and water hazards, creating a distinctive desert golf experience.

Course Overview

Sewailo Golf Club presents an invigorating test that draws golfers into the heart of the Sonoran Desert just outside Tucson, Arizona. As an 18-hole championship facility, it balances strategic challenge with an inviting layout that caters to a variety of skill levels. The course’s design navigates natural desert terrain, weaving fairways through native cacti, rugged outcroppings, and shimmering water hazards. This interplay of obstacles demands thoughtful shot selection, igniting a rewarding sense of accomplishment when a well-executed approach lands softly on one of Sewailo’s smooth, fast greens.

From the first tee box, players experience the dry, sun-soaked Arizona backdrop combined with generous fairway widths that offer multiple lines of play. The thoughtful routing motivates golfers to weigh risk and reward, especially on several par 4s and par 5s where driver placement sets the stage for scoring opportunities or costly errors. Water comes into play on a handful of holes, serving as both a visual highlight and a challenge to accuracy. Bunkers, although noted to be in some need of attention, are positioned to protect landing zones and guard the greens effectively.

The course’s conditions consistently receive praise, with well-maintained greens that run true and fairways kept in excellent shape even during the hot season. Sewailo’s desert setting heightens the experience without overwhelming players, making it approachable for mid to low handicappers seeking variety and strategic interest. Walking is an exhilarating option for those prepared for the warm climate, allowing full immersion in the surrounding landscape.

Amenities complement the round with a friendly and knowledgeable staff, a well-stocked pro shop, and convenient dining facilities. The club’s proximity to Tucson enhances ease of access for visitors planning a golf-focused trip. While golf cart placement and bunker lining have drawn some critique, overall, Sewailo Golf Club offers a memorable desert golf adventure that hooks players for return visits and deeper exploration of its demanding layout.

Course Highlights

Sewailo stands out for its integration of natural desert elements, combining native cactus, water features, and rugged terrain with a layout that offers multiple strategic choices on many holes. The smooth, true greens are a highlight, supported by fairways that reward precise tee shots and encourage thoughtful course management. It serves as home course for the University of Arizona golf teams, underscoring its championship pedigree and conditioning standards.

Overall Great Course. Played mid April and it was fantastic experience and a good challenge. Tee to Green in very good shape. Only down fall would be conditions of the bunkers being lined with plastic. Friendly knowledgeable staff, and good practice facilities.

Great overall experience. The course was in great shape and gave you multiple options on the Par4’s and Par5’s on how you were going to approach the hole. Greens were in great condition as well. The course staff was nice. Only thing that would’ve changed this from 4 to 5 stars is we didn’t see the beverage cart until 9. If I were in Tucson I would definitely consider going here again!

Played Sewaillo twice this week. Course, Fairways and Greens are in great shape. A few issues are the Bunkers are in bad shape, course golf cart areas are way to far from the greens, using a range finder it was over 100 yards on many holes to walk to hit your ball, unacceptable as I am disabled and it was very difficult for 18 holes and with the heat the beverage cart wasn't seen until calls made to club house each time which needs improvement. I give the course a 6 out of 10. Unfortunately I won't be able to play here again with golf cart restrictions too far out.

First time golfing in Arizona and this experience will have me coming back for more. Great service in the clubhouse and out on the course. The real star of the experience was ofcourse Sewailo’s 18 challenging and beautiful holes honoring the desert scape It encompassed. Thanks Sewailo for making our first desert golf experience top notch.

Have played many courses in Scottsdale and Tucson over the past two months, and was very disappointed with Sewailo. The greens were covered with what the starter referred to as gypsum, though they played even worse than if they had just been punched, making it impossible to control direction or speed. Plus, the many bunkers had their plastic liners exposed, and the sand was very hard. It cost $110 with tax, but I stopped after nine, as it was such an unpleasant experience.

Visiting from San Antonio and brought a friend to play the course. I had played here about 5 years ago so I knew it was good. Cart attendants, pro shop guys and starter all very friendly and helpful. Course in good shape. Greens ran true and smooth. Lot of water on the course that you have to watch out for. It's a challenging course with several risk/reward holes depending on how far you hit your driver. It's the home course for the University of Arizona. Well stocked pro shop. Had lunch at the grill after. All the food was good. Highly recommend this course. You'll enjoy it.
