Crooked Tree Golf Course

Tucson, Arizona, USASouthern Arizona

Crooked Tree Golf Course offers an inviting 18-hole public layout in Tucson that blends open fairways with selective water features and walkable terrain. It provides a balanced challenge suited for all levels amid a subtly desert-influenced setting.

Course Overview

Crooked Tree Golf Course in Tucson, Arizona, presents an accessible and thoughtfully designed layout that appeals to a broad range of golfers. This 18-hole public course offers an engaging round without the demands or price tag associated with Tucson’s more high-profile destinations like Starr Pass or Dove Mountain. The course’s style combines open expanses with pockets of strategic water features, creating a layout that balances challenge with enjoyment for players of varied skill levels. Fairways invite the golfer’s eye to roam, while greens are guarded by thoughtfully placed bunkers that require a measured approach.

Located on the city’s northwest side, Crooked Tree’s surroundings offer a subtle desert character with mature trees and natural vegetation weaving through the holes. While not a traditional desert course, the greenery compliments the arid environment and provides visual interest along its fairways. Water hazards, though limited, add a refreshing contrast to the warm climate and influence shot selection throughout the round.

One of Crooked Tree’s noteworthy qualities is its walkability—a rare feature in the Tucson area. The course is friendly for those who prefer to walk, with gentle elevation changes and thoughtful routing that respects the natural contours of the land. Golfers planning to walk should bring comfortable footwear suited to dirt cart paths and occasional sandy patches. After sundown, the driving range’s lighting extends practice time, enhancing the overall experience.

Crooked Tree caters to recreational players, beginners, and those seeking solid golf without excessive pressure. Course conditions are commendable year-round, with maintenance efforts focused on keeping fairways and greens in playable shape. While the course lacks widespread signage or distance markers, experienced players find the layout rewarding and fun. The staff’s relaxed approach adds to the welcoming atmosphere for visitors.

This course is ideal for golfers looking for a quality round in Tucson without breaking the bank. A round here calls for practical preparation—rangefinders prove useful for tricky yardages—and an appreciation for straightforward golf in a refreshing desert setting. Crooked Tree encourages a game that’s both spirited and unpretentious, making it a preferred choice among locals and visiting players alike.

Course Highlights

I've always enjoyed my golf experience here. It's a solid experience above a muni course but without the expense and swankiness of a Starr Pass or Dove Mountain. It's an open course with interesting holes and a decent amount of water. It's also one of the relatively few walkable courses in town. Definitely worth checking out !

Beautifully maintained year around. Driving range and practice area has lights. Friendly staff, can't beat it for the price. Favorite course in Tucson.

Fairways and greens in good shape. Cart paths are mostly just dirt, which is fine. Carts REALLY slow. No drinking water on the course. Fun track, esp for the price. They sent me out alone on a Monday and I played a full round in 3 hrs. Would play it again but bring a GPS or rangefinder. Difficult to get distances from the tee to a trap or dogleg, etc

Great local golf course. For the price, it’s a phenomenal value. Everyone that runs the course seems to be very cool, as well. The layout is really fun and they keep the course in decent condition.
