Crooked Tree Golf Course

Tucson, Arizona, USASouthern Arizona

Crooked Tree Golf Course stands out as a well-kept, accessible public 18-hole course in Tucson, delivering a balanced blend of strategic challenges and approachable holes within a classic Sonoran desert setting. Its walkability and thoughtful design make it a rewarding visit for golfers seeking value with quality conditions.

Course Overview

Crooked Tree Golf Course offers Tucson golfers an 18-hole layout that balances challenge with approachability, making it a favored choice among locals seeking quality golf without the premium price tag. As a public course, it welcomes players of all skill levels with well-maintained fairways and greens that hold an encouraging pace of play. The course stretches over a diverse terrain that integrates the natural Sonoran desert landscape with pockets of water hazards that demand thoughtful shot placement. Its open design lets the persistent desert breeze influence shot strategy, subtly testing tempo without overwhelming the average player.

The layout features a blend of longer, strategic holes alongside approachable par-3s and shorter scoring opportunities, encouraging players to trust both their long and short games. Though the cart paths primarily consist of packed dirt, walking the course is not only possible but recommended, allowing golfers to absorb the desert’s quiet rhythm and the panoramic views that unfold around each hole. For those planning to visit during warmer months, the course’s lighting on the driving range and practice areas extends opportunities to fine-tune swings beyond daylight hours.

Crooked Tree’s maintenance reflects consistent attention to fairways and putting surfaces, with lush greens that respond well to skilled putts without feeling overly penal. Water hazards come into play at several holes, introducing risk-reward scenarios that spice up rounds while preserving overall fairness.

Players should plan to bring a GPS or rangefinder to better navigate distances as some tees lack clear markers for bunker or dogleg placement. The staff's reputation for friendliness and efficient pace management contributes to a welcoming atmosphere that keeps players coming back. While no water stations are located on the course, the compact layout encourages a quick pace and straightforward strategy, making Crooked Tree a solid option for a satisfying round of desert golf.

Great local golf course. For the price, it’s a phenomenal value. Everyone that runs the course seems to be very cool, as well. The layout is really fun and they keep the course in decent condition.

Fairways and greens in good shape. Cart paths are mostly just dirt, which is fine. Carts REALLY slow. No drinking water on the course. Fun track, esp for the price. They sent me out alone on a Monday and I played a full round in 3 hrs. Would play it again but bring a GPS or rangefinder. Difficult to get distances from the tee to a trap or dogleg, etc

I've always enjoyed my golf experience here. It's a solid experience above a muni course but without the expense and swankiness of a Starr Pass or Dove Mountain. It's an open course with interesting holes and a decent amount of water. It's also one of the relatively few walkable courses in town. Definitely worth checking out !
