Arizona National Golf Club

Tucson, Arizona, USASouthern Arizona

Arizona National Golf Club presents a desert-style 18-hole challenge just outside Tucson. This public layout pairs thoughtfully designed holes with speed-sensitive greens and striking desert ambiance, appealing to players seeking strategic golf amid awe-inspiring views.

Course Overview

Arizona National Golf Club offers an 18-hole public course that challenges golfers while celebrating the stark beauty of the Sonoran Desert. Located at the edge of Tucson, this layout presents a distinctive desert-style golfing experience framed by towering saguaros and rugged foothills. The rolling terrain, combined with desert flora and natural washes, commands strategic shot-making, especially as wind can enter the play late in the day, testing a player’s control and tempo.

The course stretches to just under 7,000 yards from the back tees, with a par 72 setup that balances demanding long holes alongside tighter, more technical segments. Fairways range from gently undulating to sharply contoured, requiring thoughtful club selection and precise placement. Greens here are known for their speed and subtle breaks, rewarding focus and touch on approach and putting. Several holes provide stunning vantage points overlooking Tucson’s skyline and surrounding mountain ranges, enriching the round with compelling views that shift from morning light through sunset.

Players of different skill levels find Arizona National both welcoming and challenging. Less experienced golfers appreciate the well-maintained, clearly defined tee boxes designed to encourage confidence, while low handicappers can test their abilities navigating challenging desert hazards and quick, firm greens. The course’s maintenance level remains high year-round, with especially crisp conditions in spring and fall, making these ideal seasons to visit.

Amenities complement the course’s natural setting. The clubhouse features a pro shop stocked with essential gear and a casual restaurant offering a relaxing spot before or after rounds. The staff is known for attentive support, including helpful marshals guiding pace of play and tips on managing the course’s unique desert elements. Players are advised to bring ample water and sun protection given the Arizona heat and occasional long stretches between services on the layout.

Golfers should consider walking only if prepared for desert conditions and uneven footing, though golf carts are readily available and often recommended, especially in warmer months. Despite its remote location, Arizona National rewards commitment with a memorable desert golf experience highlighted by crisp conditioning, diverse challenges, and captivating scenery.

Course Highlights

Arizona National stands out for its rugged desert design, tight target greens, fast and undulating putting surfaces, and panoramic views that capture Tucson’s skyline and surrounding mountains. The course layout integrates natural washes and saguaro-studded hills, requiring strategic thinking and shot execution. Signed by distinctive holes with sweeping desert vistas and elevation changes, it balances playability with moments of demanding precision.

V good fast greens, bunkers OK, fairways mediocre. Fun layout with good views and lots of critters. Good value for the modest green fee. Not a good course to walk and no early breakfast or coffee.

It's simply an amazing course. It was one of the best I have ever played. And the best part is it was not very busy and was not that expensive for what you get. I did play in the afternoon, which was much cheaper, but wow, what a course. The tees, greens, and fairways were amazing. Everything was impeccably manacured. Just under 4 hours to play, which is unheard of at most courses like this. Greens were lightning quick. Very, very challenging. Biggest challenge is the location, which why, that makes the course and what makes it unique and spectacular. It is a haul to get there even from the south part of Tucson. Will definitely play right away when back in town

Tough course and really fun to play! Quite a bit of brown mud patches though which made it more difficult

Just played on July 2nd. This course is RUINED until its time to overseed. Booked a Hot Deal & thought I was getting a good deal. There were only about 6 other people on the course all day (FOR A REASON)! Looks like overwatering caused fungal damage. Fairways were deep punched (some spots so much it looked like course wide Javelina damage). Greens were aerated but not top dressed. Not a single staff member said a word about the current condition of the course when we checked in nor was it mentioned on their website (shame on you)! Do not bother with even the cheap deals until after the overseed. So disappointed!

This course was a challenge in the best way. Tight target greens surrounded by beautiful cactus hillsides. By the 6th hole you could see all of Tucson. I will definitely be bringing my clubs from Washington next year!

I have had the chance to play out here on a few occasions and have really enjoyed myself. The course is very well maintained, with desert landscapes and challenging holes. The staff were friendly and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed for a great day of golf. They really make each trip a little special. Great guys at the bag drop, and marshals out on the course with good recommendations to keep your ball safe! I have played when the greens have been aerated and when greens were in perfect condition. The layout of the course offers a good mix of difficulty and playability. There are some really challenging ones out there. The views of the surrounding mountains and natural scenery are great! The views are probably the best part. Lots of wildlife to enjoy was well. Rates have always been really reasonable. The clubhouse facilities are top-notch, with a well-stocked pro shop and a real nice restaurant. We usually get a burrito before we start our round and then a sandwich after we get done. Be sure to bring a lot of water and hydration with you. It gets hot and sometimes it can be a long time between water stations or the drink cart.

Course 5/10, Staff 1/10 No carts at 930am, group that teed off at 936am on 18 tee at 220pm, called and asked for a Marshall and was told “we have nobody” went in to talk to “supervisor” Chase who was sitting on the couch watching TV and said what a horrible experience for $65 course and all I got was mute. Sewailo $40 same time and a way better experience all day. Skip this track
