Virginia Beach, Virginia, USASoutheastern Virginia

Kempsville Greens Golf Club in Virginia Beach offers an accessible 18-hole parkland layout that favors precision and control. Its compact yardage and tight fairways create a course well suited to developing players while providing a pragmatic challenge within the city’s urban setting.

Course Overview

Kempsville Greens Golf Club, situated in Virginia Beach, offers an 18-hole layout that leans toward a compact, parkland-style experience. The course plays relatively short, demanding precision and tactical shot-making more than sheer distance. The fairways wind through tree-lined corridors, challenging players to stay accurate off the tee amid the tight and narrow routes. The setting is urban with pockets of natural vegetation, offering a straightforward golf environment without extravagant elevation changes or sprawling vistas.

Designed primarily for players seeking an economical round within proximity of the city, Kempsville Greens caters well to beginners and intermediate golfers. The course’s gentle contours and short yardages allow novices to find their rhythm and enjoy competitive play, although more advanced players may find it less forgiving. The greens are modest in size but can present subtle breaks that test putting touch when maintained well. Given recent reviews, certain maintenance aspects such as fairway condition and bunker quality have been inconsistent, indicating ongoing efforts to improve playability.

Golf cart rentals come equipped with GPS, providing an aid to navigation on this tight track. The clubhouse offers a casual snack bar, supporting light refreshments but no extensive dining options. Walking is permitted though the compact layout and urban surroundings make comfortable shoes advisable. The course atmosphere encourages a relaxed pace, although some visitors have noted slow play during busy periods, suggesting travelers plan tee times accordingly.

For golfers seeking a challenge grounded in accuracy rather than length, Kempsville Greens offers a solid test without excessive demands. While it may not rival larger championship layouts, its accessibility and pragmatic design create a convenient golfing option inside Virginia Beach. The busy environment encourages focus, rewarding steady, controlled golf rather than power. Overall, Kempsville Greens serves as a practical venue for locals and visitors aiming to sharpen their short game or enjoy an affordable public round.

Course Highlights

The course is recognized for its tight fairways and strategic demands on accuracy over length. The GPS-equipped carts assist players in navigating the compact design. While some bunkers lack traditional sand hazards, the generally well-defined greens present subtle challenges when maintained. The urban tree corridors and straightforward routing reflect a practical parkland style, emphasizing shot placement and course management.

07/01/25 Has a range that you only are going to use shirt irons on. Very tight course so probably not going to bomb drives without hitting a few structures. Worth playing once

Great 9 hole course.

This course is in terrible shape. Tee boxes are horrible. The fairways are bare and hard. There's no sand in the bunkers. The greens are extremely hard and bumpy. I think for the money there asking for is a rip off.

The front nine greens are faster than the back nine. Ground is hard, rain will soften it up. I really enjoyed playing there.

The golf carts with a course display were the nicest thing about this place. The staff was friendly and helpful, but the course itself is in terrible shape all across the board. The tee times were way too close together and made the course play incredibly slow, we got through 3 holes in 50min.

Easily one of the worst ran courses I’ve been to. The fairways are like roughs, the greens have more weed than snoop dog, and you have to wait 30 mins at each tee box to tee off because they don’t control pace of play. Honestly dumb ass management to allow that.

Charge the same price as nice courses, like Herons Ridge, but has bow creek quality. Absolute rip off.
