Heron Ridge Golf Club

Virginia Beach, Virginia, USASoutheastern Virginia

Heron Ridge Golf Club delivers an engaging 18-hole public course set against the natural contours of Virginia Beach’s landscape. Offering a balanced par 72 layout that challenges golfers of varied skill levels, it features mature hardwood-lined fairways, strategic bunkering, and a clubhouse with solid amenities.

Course Overview

Heron Ridge Golf Club presents an 18-hole public golf experience set within the varied landscapes of Virginia Beach, Virginia. The course challenges players with a blend of strategic shot-making and natural terrain, making it a compelling choice for golfers seeking both engagement and enjoyment. Far from run-of-the-mill municipal offerings, Heron Ridge commands attention through a layout that tests decision-making while remaining accessible to a broad range of golfers.

The course stretches to a par 72 layout covering approximately 6,800 yards, offering a balance of long tees and approachable angles for mid- and high-handicap players. The rolling fairways flow through mature hardwoods, while water hazards and well-placed bunkers come into play on several holes, demanding accuracy and thoughtful club selection. The greens, though presenting some seasonal wear, provide subtle breaks and fast surfaces that reward precise putting. Players will find the course requires a steady tempo, especially when winds sweep in from the nearby coast.

Heron Ridge’s practice facilities are well-appointed, with a generous driving range and chipping area, making warm-up routines effective before heading to the first tee. On-course, carts equipped with GPS add convenience, although walking is an option for those who prefer a more traditional pace. The clubhouse features comfortable amenities and a welcoming atmosphere, suited to both casual rounds and group outings.

While the course has moments that present a solid test to scratch golfers, it does not alienate beginners or higher handicaps. The fairway widths, combined with multiple tee positions, invite players to craft their own challenge level. Local players appreciate the value and the thoughtful conditioning, even if intermittent areas of the greens show signs of wear due to weather pressures.

For golfers traveling to Virginia Beach, Heron Ridge stands out as a quality public course that balances a demanding layout with accessible playability. Adequate preparation—especially for hydration and pace of play—ensures the best experience. Whether tuning up your game or searching for a spirited round, Heron Ridge offers a compelling setting where the landscape quietly commands respect and rewards focus.

Course Highlights

The course’s setting among mature hardwoods and strategically placed water hazards shapes holes that require accurate shot placement rather than brute force. Several greens are guarded by well-positioned bunkers, posing precision challenges particularly under coastal winds. Practice facilities include a large driving range and short game area, supporting warm-ups and skill honing. The clubhouse offers a comfortable resting point with food and beverage service, complementing the overall day-out experience.

Great warm up areas. Friendly staff. Great carts. Discount for locals which is very nice. Course was in great shape minus some areas on the greens. I think the weather has caused some of the issue with the grass on the greens. Overall great course!

Course was nice. Ranger was obnoxious. Came up and yelled at us multiple times about pace of play and we finished in under 4 hours

I haven't played here since highschool and it's immaculate. A little tougher than most public courses in Virginia Beach, so hackers beware! No snacks on cart and cash only is ridiculous. Dying of thirst on the course. Thanks for that.

Course was in great shape and very challenging. Priced accordingly in my opinion. 164 for 2 players to play 18 and a cart. Club house was beautiful on the inside. Will definitely come back if we come back to Vabeach

In town for conference and just called to get tee time…man with northern accent who was taking tee times very rude. Had a couple simple questions and he acted like I was bothering him. So I will not be playing there, not that they probably care, but you really should have better customer service if you want business.

Way overpriced… especially when VB National is 10 mins away and $15 more for a wildly better course & facility
