Aeropines Golf Club

Virginia Beach, Virginia, USASoutheastern Virginia

Aeropines Golf Club in Virginia Beach features two diverse 18-hole courses that combine coastal terrain with strategic design, offering an engaging test for golfers of all levels. The Tomcat and Hornet courses balance accessible playability with challenging routing amid marshes and pines.

Course Overview

Aeropines Golf Club in Virginia Beach offers a distinctive experience with two 18-hole courses designed to challenge golfers while embracing the natural landscape of coastal Virginia. As a public facility, Aeropines invites players of varying abilities to navigate a layout that balances strategic shot-making with accessible playability. The two courses, known as the Tomcat and the Hornet, showcase different moods of the same terrain. The Tomcat course features a mix of tighter fairways and challenging bunkers, demanding precision and tactical planning. Meanwhile, the Hornet course allows a more flowing rhythm through gently undulating fairways framed by pines and pockets of marshland, lending a softer yet engaging test.

The setting reflects the Atlantic coastal plain, with the influence of maritime elements evident in the routing and natural hazards. The landscape’s occasional swampy stretches remind players to think carefully about club selection and shot placement, often testing strategic patience rather than brute power. Aeropines accommodates a broad skill range without sacrificing the demands that keep low handicappers intrigued. The greens provide a variety of pin positions with subtle breaks, rewarding a keen eye and deft touch.

Amenities include a well-equipped pro shop that caters to gear needs and an inviting restaurant offering a comfortable spot to unwind. While some maintenance challenges, such as variable tee box conditions and seasonal turf recovery, have been noted, continuous improvements reflect the club’s commitment to quality play. Walkers will appreciate gentle fairway slopes but should prepare for softer footing in places, especially after rain.

Aeropines presents a golf trip with character, where every hole reveals new contours of the land and offers moments that test both skill and strategy. It is a practical destination for those seeking solid championship-style golf close to the coast, blending challenge and charm in equal measure.

Course Highlights

Aeropines’ two courses, Tomcat and Hornet, are notable for blending strategic bunkering and natural marsh hazards within a coastal pine setting. The Tomcat course challenges accuracy with narrower fairways and demanding greens, while the Hornet course offers a more open, flowing layout punctuated by gentle elevation changes. The courses’ proximity to the coast influences the wind and turf conditions, which vary throughout the year.

Tomcat course in horrible shape. Marshall hurried us even though we were on pace and finished a little over 4 hours. They had alot of pairs and 3 some behind us and apparently it was our fault people were jammed up. Took forever to find a ball in the weeds a yard or two off the fairway. Bunkers full of weeds and no sand at all, just mud. Needs alot of work to get up to pace with hornet course.

Visiting Virginia Beach during the Christmas holidays and decided to play golf because the weather warned up to.(45*), I found the course in good winter condition. The greens and fairways are in a dormant state but smooth. The greens were very fast and challenging. The fairways were in good condition and challenging. The fairway bunkers added to the challenge. I read about players' complaints concerning bunkers. My answer to that is, " Don't hit it in the bunker!" A couple of tee boxes didn't have grass but were still playable. The proshop has all your golfing needs. The restaurant is very elegant. I played the Tomcat Course for$41, but they also have a winter special for $30 with a cart. I enjoyed it and hope you do as well 😊 I recommend, Enjoy;))

We are out of state and called in to see if they had an opening and they told us they where wide open so we drove over there and they never told us you have to have a military license to be able to golf there. Retarded 🤦‍♂️

The staff were very pleasant. The club house was nice inside but the decks/porches were in disrepair. We took time to give the food a shot after our round. The breakfast was good and price nicely. We only played 9 and at $50.00 for two, with a cart was a good deal, for a weekday. The course….Meh. Greens were 3.5 out of 5. Lots were burnt. Fairways were long and in need of cutting. When they were cut last, clumps of grass were left all over the fairways. I’m no pro by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a frustrating round, from the course aspect. Several lost balls, on the fairways. We may give it another try, next time we’re in Oceana. I heard that improvements were in the works.

The Hornet is in great playing condition now, and the rates can't be beat for the area. F18s blasting off nearby scream freedom, so get your swing in overdrive at Aeropines. Friendly staff.
