Battlefield Golf Club

Chesapeake, Virginia, USASoutheastern Virginia

Battlefield Golf Club presents an open, 18-hole Virginia course that offers steady playability amid gently rolling terrain. With minimal trees and few water hazards, this layout challenges golfers with wind and shot precision, while operating without a traditional clubhouse for a raw, back-to-basics round.

Course Overview

Battlefield Golf Club, located in Chesapeake, Virginia, offers a straightforward 18-hole layout that appeals to golfers seeking a no-frills, open playing experience. The course primarily stretches across gently rolling terrain with minimal tree coverage, allowing breezes to influence shot-making and providing an unobstructed view of every hole. Water hazards appear sparingly, keeping strategic decisions focused on classic shot placement rather than grappling with forced carries or dense rough.

While the course design encourages a brisk pace, and the relatively flat fairways make it accessible to players of varying skill levels, the absence of dense foliage and limited elevation changes tend to favor those comfortable with wind and open-course conditions. Greens are generally predictable and receive consistent maintenance, which aids putting accuracy across the round. However, players should be prepared for the exposed nature of the course, as shade is limited and amenities traditionally expected at private or resort courses are minimal at Battlefield.

At present, Battlefield Golf Club operates without a formal clubhouse facility, which affects on-site conveniences such as locker rooms and full-service restrooms. Players should plan accordingly, especially during warmer months when hydration resources on the course are sparse. Despite these limitations, the layout’s openness and lack of surrounding residential development create a quiet environment, free from distractions and external noise, allowing golfers to focus purely on their game.

The course welcomes players who appreciate a solid golf challenge without excessive complexity. It suits those who prioritize shot execution over architectural intricacy or lavish club amenities. Walking the course is viable, though sandals or soft-spiked shoes are advisable due to natural ground conditions and the relatively firm turf.

Battlefield Golf Club reflects the practical side of golf in Virginia - uncomplicated, steady, and welcoming to golfers looking for a straightforward round with few interruptions. Visitors should account for the unique operational style and prepare for a modest golfing experience centered on time on the course rather than the extras.

Course Highlights

Battlefield Golf Club features wide fairways with minimal tree interference and few water hazards, allowing focus on wind conditions and shot control. The absence of a clubhouse reflects its no-frills approach. The course’s open landscape provides clear sightlines throughout, creating a straightforward test of golf without elaborate architectural distractions.

Nice open golf course. No houses anywhere around and very little trees so no getting your ball lost in leaves. Only a couple of holes near a street. Decent greens and little water hazards. Only missing a clubhouse but that’s coming!

They created a $15 “rider fee” which you have to pay no matter what. Understandable if you have to get another cart, however I was playing by myself and my girlfriend was just tagging along. I had one cart, and had to pay 15 extra bucks just so she could ride in the cart with me. Never heard of this policy at any course in my life. Also, the staff is extremely rude and not accommodating whatsoever. After you pay for your round they could care less what you have to say.

Course was in good shape, greens were predictable and well kept. Will play again. Only hiccup was on the first hot day of the year, we could've used some water coolers on the course.

It's a nice course. Not too expensive. Lots of water.

The course itself is solid. The grass is good quality, very picturesque, and a good amount of water. The staff, however, absolutely ruined the experience. Of all the times I've golfed, I've never had the staff rush my group along like this. This time, we were at the driving range at 7:02 AM for a 7:12 tee time and they came driving up, yelling our group's name, and saying we're late and need to get to the first tee. On the second shot of the first hole, AT 7:12 AM, OUR TEE TIME, the staff member drives up and says we need to hurry up or do a scramble (which we were literally doing) because we were taking too long. We were fine until hole 15, when a staff member drove up and once more complained about our pace (we were at a very solid pace, about 3 1/2 hours in). We suspect the staff member was familiar with the 5some (against course rules) behind us, who were driving into us... overall very annoyed with the attitude of the staff, and there are many many other golf courses in the area available to play at, with MUCH better facilities (see other reviews for elaboration on that).

This place is so bad. No clubhouse, no restrooms, putting green might as well be the same as the gravel parking lot. Guy in front me at the range left half a bucket to which I was told by staff that I continued to take the leftovers I would be reprimanded. This course is for dudes in jeans. Don’t waste a dime at this place.
