Sweetens Cove Golf Club

South Pittsburg, Tennessee, USASoutheastern Tennessee

Sweetens Cove Golf Club is a rugged 18-hole highland links course in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, known for its sweeping slopes and massive, undulating greens with dual-pin configurations. This walking-only layout delivers a spirited, match-play-focused challenge in a natural setting with minimal amenities and a laid-back vibe.

Course Overview

Sweetens Cove Golf Club offers a distinctly rugged golf experience that stands apart from conventional courses, situated on sprawling terrain in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. This 18-hole layout embraces a highland links style, blending rolling hills and expansive slopes that present players with a dynamic landscape to conquer. The course’s dramatic elevation changes demand strategic shot-making, while generously sized greens, often featuring two separate pin placements, test putting skills and offer versatile play from round to round. The undulating surfaces and sharp contours of these greens reward creativity but can humble golfers of all levels.

Designed with match play in mind, Sweetens Cove encourages camaraderie and competition without the pressure of strict stroke play. Its open, natural setting eschews typical golf amenities in favor of focusing purely on the game - no grand clubhouse or lavish service is in the foreground here. Instead, the course sustains a laid-back atmosphere where players are invited to explore at their own pace. Limited daily tee times help preserve pace of play and allow the terrain to breathe, resulting in a more personal experience largely free from congestion.

Walking is the only option here, and golfers should be prepared for uneven ground and variable footing across the undulating fairways. Sturdy shoes with good traction are essential for navigating the hills and frequent slope changes. The course's challenging features and elevated design make it rewarding for skilled players seeking a distinct test, though golfers with all degrees of ability will find moments to enjoy the natural flow and character of the layout.

Amenities are minimal by design but include a modest "shed" retail space with standout merchandise and a food truck offering casual fare for those looking to fuel up before or after their round. The staff emphasize an unpretentious, welcoming vibe that invites golfers to focus on the sport and the company around them.

Sweetens Cove perseveres as an authentic golf destination in Tennessee, appealing to those who appreciate terrain-driven course architecture and spirited play. Its combination of relentless greens, natural features, and relaxed pace offers a refreshing alternative to traditional resorts and private clubs across the region.

Such a cool place, very laid back feel but extremely fun golf experience. Come here to have some fun and get kicked in the teeth by these greens and chipping areas. The renovations in 2024 have proved to be great. Best value in golf imo

What an experience! High level links style play, extreme slopes and huge 2 pin greens that will challenge any level player. Great for match play, forget the strokes. Great pace of play due to the limited reservations, a must try for any golfer. The food truck is run by a gem of a lady and the food is very good!! Chicken ceasar wrap made my day. Thanks to all involved with this place.

Probably the most unique and pleasant golf experience I've had east of the Mississippi River. This place is about one thing - great golf with your friends. Literally nothing else. No cart girl, no food, no fluff. They do however have a "shed" with some of the best merch you'll ever find at a public golf course. You could tell no stone was left unturned during the design and construction of this course. The course might look straight forward and simple at first but it's the furthest thing from that. The greens are extremely difficult especially depending on pin placements. 2 pins in each green to keep things interesting for you group match. This is designed to be a matchplay course unless you're scratch golfer, it'll humble you quickly. With the purchase of a day pass you'll find yourself not wanting to leave until it's completely dark. On the day we went there was maybe 30 people on the course. Just an excellent day all around and highly recommend a visit.

This course is awesome. Greens are massive and very undulating. Layout is beautiful! Laid back atmosphere. Only negative, they allowed a group of 7 and a group of 8 to play together. These groups backed the course up. I was not a huge fan of that.

A perfect golf day. No other way to describe it. Show up, hear the speech, and golf as much or as little as your heart desires. The entire crew is top notch and there really isn't much else you can say.

Beautiful course. Huge greens. Golf as it should be - have 6 in your group - no problem - all play together. 9 holes - 2 pins on each hole. We had a great time.
