Course Overview

Brown Acres Golf Course in Chattanooga, Tennessee, offers an 18-hole public layout that challenges both newcomers and experienced golfers willing to navigate its unique terrain. The course provides a parkland-style experience characterized by tree-lined fairways and varying elevation changes that require thoughtful shot placement. While the routing can be somewhat confusing for first-time players, clear signage helps guide golfers from tee to green. Brown Acres is best suited to those who enjoy a traditional golf environment set within a quiet, suburban area.

The fairways reflect a course that demands precision over brute strength. Although drainage issues mean play is optimal only during dry weather, the greens stand out for their firmness and speed, rewarding players who can master their pace and trajectory. The layout tends to favor strategic thinking, with several holes featuring greens partially obscured from the tee, encouraging careful course management rather than aggressive attack.

Brown Acres welcomes golfers with a friendly atmosphere, receiving praise for its approachable and attentive staff. The pro shop team and starters create an inviting first impression, while pace of play is generally maintained without pressure, making this course a comfortable place for those still learning the game as well as seasoned players seeking a straightforward but engaging round.

Visitors should prepare for walking the course, as cart availability is limited during wet conditions due to the sensitive turf. Good footwear is recommended to navigate the occasionally uneven terrain and elevation changes. The main facility houses a modest clubhouse that provides essential services and a place to relax before or after the round.

Ideal when the weather cooperates, Brown Acres Golf Course offers a no-frills golf outing with a focus on steady play and natural parkland challenges. Those planning a visit should aim for dry days to maximize enjoyment, ready to test their skills against a course that balances accessibility with moments of subtle complexity.

Not a nice course at all. Hasn’t rained in several days, but with the terrible drainage, you’d think a hurricane came through this morning. Layout of the course is atrocious with several greens being fully hidden where we tee’d off going in the wrong direction entirely. Will not be back

I’ve been to 5 different courses so far this year around Chattanooga/North Georgia and Brown Acres was hands down the best/most welcoming staff out of all the ones i’ve been to. The gentleman working the pro shop was really nice (which is rare these days) and more surprisingly even the starter was super kind (even more rare). No problems with pace of play, rangers didn’t bother me at all or anyone else that I saw. Felt welcome as soon as I got there for my tee time. Definitely going to be a return customer. Course is nice and the greens were great!

Course has very poor drainage so I would not recommend playing when it’s cart path only. Fairways could not even get mowed. It’s a good course and greens are nice but dry weather only play would be best.

The staff was atrociously rude. Ranger followed us around the entire time and harassed us about being done earlier. We had two newer golfers who were learning but still were not slow and were very upset about being rushed. The starter yelled at us for driving by him by 5 feet because he was not where he was supposed to be. Will not be coming back. A public golf course that we paid to be on should not have anyone playing at a normal pace being rushed.

Staff is very rude, disrespectful, and makes you feel like you’re not welcome. If you can get past that the golf is good.

I was there this morning with no tee time and no experience on this course. They let me right on the course and I had a great round. The course set up is a little hard to follow but all the holes are well marked. The greens were.in good shape and very fast. Every golfer I talked to was nice and the people at the pro shop were great. I've seen some negative reviews about this course but I certainly didn't experience anything that would make me not want to return.
