Lake of Isles Golf Club

North Stonington, Connecticut, USASoutheastern Connecticut

Lake of Isles Golf Club offers an 18-hole championship parkland experience defined by rolling terrain and fast, elevated greens. Combining natural New England scenery with a layout that tests shot-making, this public course suits golfers seeking a strategic, engaging round.

Course Overview

Lake of Isles presents an 18-hole championship layout that offers a compelling balance between challenge and aesthetic appeal, carving its place among Connecticut’s more striking public courses. Set along sweeping hills and wooded terrain in North Stonington, the course blends classic parkland design with subtle, modern touches that ask players to bring strategy as much as skill to every shot. From tee to green, the rolling landscape introduces variations in elevation that test club selection and control, especially as contours influence ball placement and approach angles.

The course stretches over a sizeable yardage suitable for low to mid-handicap players, though it remains approachable enough for enthusiasts willing to navigate its fairways carefully. Elevated and fast greens stand out as a defining feature; their firmness and speed keep putting compelling, demanding precise reading and stroke control. Throughout, bunkers sit ready to enforce accuracy, and the rough carries enough substance to punish wayward drives, particularly off the tee.

Playability at Lake of Isles rewards thoughtful strategy and refined touch, making it a fitting destination for serious golfers seeking a robust test close to home. The scenery draws on natural New England charm, with mature trees lining holes, water hazards providing visual and technical interest, and vistas at select points opening onto distant woodlands.

Visitors benefit from a well-appointed clubhouse offering dining and event facilities, underscoring the club’s reputation for quality experience both on and off the course. While the terrain invites walking, players should prepare for moderate elevation changes by wearing supportive footwear. Seasons impact the pace and condition subtly, with spring and fall often delivering the most consistent playing surfaces.

Lake of Isles extends an invitation to golfers who appreciate a course that challenges the full range of their game and rewards patience and precision. Its combination of elevation shifts, quick greens, and careful design create an engaging round that commands respect and leaves a lasting impression.

Course Highlights

Lake of Isles showcases elevated, fast greens that demand precise putting combined with strategic bunkering and natural water features. The course layout, set across varied elevation and forested surroundings, blends classic parkland traits with modern challenge, delivering a rewarding experience for golfers of differing abilities. Its standing as one of Connecticut’s premier public championship courses comes from both its design and maintained condition.

Beside the Bethpage Black, I think this golf course is arguably the best public in the tristate area. The course is maintained beautifully. The course layout is challenging and beautiful. The view is, in some holes, breathtakingly picturesque. The green fee is rather steep, but it is totally justified.

Words cannot describe how truly incredible our entire wedding experience was at Lake of Isles. Not only is the venue absolutely stunning, but the dedicated staff went above and beyond to make sure that everything turned out more beautiful than we could have ever imagined. Going into your wedding day can be extremely stressful but Bethany, Fox and the rest of the team put in their all to make sure we felt prepared and could enjoy our day. I will forever recommend LOI to anyone who is looking for their wedding venue. Photos by JBenson Photography

Played two days. Course is great. Service is not. Good weather day one but they were hosting wedding so no food or drinks after the round. Day 2 it’s raining, no course ranger, no turn food, inside staff unprepared and undermanned. They had a groups playing as 8 somes. 6 hour round. It’s trick or treat here apparently. Would struggle to recommend

This company called me to make an interview I did not apply for. I was told they had my resume from “a while ago.” I agreed to meet, although happy in my current role, because Stonington is a potential place I would live at some point. I signed on to their link for Teams invite and was left waiting with no one ever attending from the company on the day and time they chose. They wasted the beginning of my morning in a recovery holiday early week. More insultingly never even reached out afterwards. Thus I have no choice to deliver this well deserved review for lacking any concern for people’s time you as a company engaged. I have never learned all I needed to know about a company top down, before even having an interview, then I did yesterday.

Course was in terrific shape. Very difficult though if you're playing out of the rough, with all the elevated & fast greens.

Nice golf course. Big and tests your game. Layout is a little vanilla. Not a lot of holes stick out in my memory. The greens are fast but they were REALLY beat up when we played. Shoe marks everywhere around the cup. Almost seemed like they keep the same pins for multiple days. Kind of disappointing for such an expensive course and rated as one of the best in CT. 5 foot putts bouncing all over the place because of all the traffic around the cups. Very frustrating.
