Aeropines Golf Club

Virginia Beach, Virginia, USASoutheast Virginia

Aeropines Golf Club offers two distinct 18-hole courses in Virginia Beach, combining links-style elements with parkland features. Known for its approachable yet testing layouts, it provides affordable play amid a coastal setting enlivened by nearby airfields and natural terrain.

Course Overview

Aeropines Golf Club in Virginia Beach presents a distinctive golfing experience defined by two diverse 18-hole courses that challenge golfers across all skill levels. Set against a landscape marked by coastal humidity and gentle elevation changes, Aeropines combines the natural grit of a links-style layout with pockets of lush, parkland-like terrain. This semi-public facility offers both the Tomcat and Hornet courses, delivering contrasting tests of strategy and shot-making amid the region’s subtropical atmosphere.

The Tomcat course demands careful navigation through fairway bunkers that vigilantly guard the landing zones. Its conditioning fluctuates with the seasons, often reflecting the regional climate and course maintenance cycles. During winter months, fairways may take on a dormant appearance, but the greens tend to hold a smooth surface, revealing subtle breaks that reward precise putting. Despite some areas showing wear—such as tee boxes occasionally sparse in grass—the course’s layout compels players to balance aggression with patience.

Conversely, the Hornet course stands out for its improved turf conditions and more open routing. Rolling fairways and well-placed hazards encourage a blend of power and finesse. Regular maintenance has enhanced playability here, making it a favored choice for those seeking a more consistent surface. The presence of nearby military airfields adds an unusual backdrop where the roar of fighter jets intersects unexpectedly with the calm of the fairways, injecting energy into the round.

Both courses feature flat to gently undulating greens, suitable for walking, though some spots can be soft following rain due to low-lying, occasionally swampy areas. The clubhouse offers a comfortable setting to regroup, with a pro shop stocked for essentials and a restaurant providing a refined dining option after play.

Players looking for affordable golf in Virginia Beach will find Aeropines to be a practical destination with a blend of challenge and approachability. While ongoing improvements are evident, visitors are advised to plan for the occasional uneven turf conditions and embrace the course’s unique character as part of their round. Whether teeing off on the Tomcat or Hornet, golfers can expect a straightforward yet occasionally testing round framed by Virginia’s coastal environment.

Course Highlights

The Tomcat course is defined by challenging fairway bunkers and seasonal turf variations, while the Hornet offers smoother conditions with rolling fairways. The unique presence of military airfields nearby gives a rare energetic backdrop to golf in this coastal region. The clubhouse amenities provide comfort and convenience for players after their rounds.

The staff were very pleasant. The club house was nice inside but the decks/porches were in disrepair. We took time to give the food a shot after our round. The breakfast was good and price nicely. We only played 9 and at $50.00 for two, with a cart was a good deal, for a weekday. The course….Meh. Greens were 3.5 out of 5. Lots were burnt. Fairways were long and in need of cutting. When they were cut last, clumps of grass were left all over the fairways. I’m no pro by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a frustrating round, from the course aspect. Several lost balls, on the fairways. We may give it another try, next time we’re in Oceana. I heard that improvements were in the works.

Visiting Virginia Beach during the Christmas holidays and decided to play golf because the weather warned up to.(45*), I found the course in good winter condition. The greens and fairways are in a dormant state but smooth. The greens were very fast and challenging. The fairways were in good condition and challenging. The fairway bunkers added to the challenge. I read about players' complaints concerning bunkers. My answer to that is, " Don't hit it in the bunker!" A couple of tee boxes didn't have grass but were still playable. The proshop has all your golfing needs. The restaurant is very elegant. I played the Tomcat Course for$41, but they also have a winter special for $30 with a cart. I enjoyed it and hope you do as well 😊 I recommend, Enjoy;))

The Hornet is in great playing condition now, and the rates can't be beat for the area. F18s blasting off nearby scream freedom, so get your swing in overdrive at Aeropines. Friendly staff.

Tomcat course in horrible shape. Marshall hurried us even though we were on pace and finished a little over 4 hours. They had alot of pairs and 3 some behind us and apparently it was our fault people were jammed up. Took forever to find a ball in the weeds a yard or two off the fairway. Bunkers full of weeds and no sand at all, just mud. Needs alot of work to get up to pace with hornet course.

We are out of state and called in to see if they had an opening and they told us they where wide open so we drove over there and they never told us you have to have a military license to be able to golf there. Retarded 🤦‍♂️
