Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette delivers an 18-hole municipal layout distinguished by excellent drainage, smooth greens, and a broad, open style that challenges both strategic play and short game skills. This accessible course caters to golfers of all levels seeking reliable year-round conditions and friendly staff.
Course Overview
Wetlands Golf Course, located at 2129 N University Ave in Lafayette, Louisiana, offers a refreshing and accessible 18-hole municipal layout designed to challenge a wide range of golfers. The course features a spacious, open style with minimal mature trees lining the fairways, creating a broad, inviting canvas where shot-making and course management take center stage. Its flat terrain and well-maintained playing surfaces make it a versatile venue suited for players seeking a fair yet testing round of golf.
One of Wetlands’ standout qualities is its exceptional drainage system. According to player experience, the course recovers quickly after heavy rain, allowing for consistent playability even when other local tracks struggle. This attribute makes Wetlands a reliable choice throughout the year, reducing weather-related frustrations and allowing golfers to focus on their game.
Greens at Wetlands are a highlight, praised for their smooth, rolling surfaces that respond well to careful putting strokes. Despite being a municipal course, the maintenance staff keep these greens in excellent condition, balancing challenge with fairness. The lack of excessive tree cover means winds can subtly influence ball flight, adding an additional layer of strategy especially on approach shots and tee shots at exposed holes.
Practice amenities include a modest driving range limited to irons only, a dedicated chipping green ideal for short game work within 10 to 15 yards, and a putting green located near the turn to keep players sharp between nines. These practice areas support skill development, though they favor short game precision over full-swing warm-ups.
The course community fosters a friendly atmosphere with courteous staff, making Wetlands feel like a local gem. Pace of play can vary, so golfers are encouraged to maintain awareness and etiquette to ensure smooth rounds. Carts are available and well-maintained, but walking is feasible given the flat layout.
Affordable green fees and a straightforward layout make Wetlands Golf Course a practical destination for players seeking a no-frills golfing experience in Lafayette’s welcoming setting. The blend of well-kept greens, reliable drainage, and approachable fairways ensures players leave planning a return visit.
Course Highlights
Wetlands stands out with its effective drainage that keeps fairways and greens playable soon after heavy rains, a broad and mostly treeless layout that challenges players to shape shots around open landing areas, and fast yet smooth greens that reward precision putting. Super challenging layout. The course was in good condition for the time of the year. The greens were good, smooth, and rolling well. The staff was super helpful and friendly. The fees were spot on, and the golfcarts were cleaned and well maintained. Time and money well spent.

Very nice course! Played it the day after a huge rain and gotta say it has to be the best drainage in the state. If anyone finds a pro v with a blue line please return to pro shop! Thanks

The course is a very nice municipal course. The layout is very open as there aren’t many mature trees online fairways. The pace of play is an issue and many golfers here don’t understand basic golf etiquette. The range limits you to irons only. The chipping green is nice but due to its location you can’t hit an approach greater than 10-15 yards. There is a nice putting green at the turn to burn time while you wait. The food options are pretty normal. The staff is nice.
