Lafayette Municipal Golf Course
Lafayette Municipal Golf Course offers a welcoming 18-hole public layout known for its parkland style and approachable design. Ideal for golfers of all levels, this course balances playable terrain with a touch of strategic challenge amid classic Louisiana scenery.
Course Overview
Located in the heart of Lafayette, Louisiana, Lafayette Municipal Golf Course offers an accessible and well-maintained 18-hole layout that appeals to players across skill levels. As a public course, it emphasizes friendly competition without sacrificing the challenge, making it a favored destination for locals and visitors alike. The course’s design embraces a parkland style, featuring tree-lined fairways and moderately contoured greens that both reward precision and invite strategic play.
The setting engages players with its straightforward charm rather than grandiosity. Fairways wind through mature oaks and pines, providing natural framing that demands accurate drives but remains approachable for higher handicaps. The greens are generally smooth and playable, though seasonal maintenance can impact their condition, so checking current course status before play is advisable.
With a total yardage just over 6,000 yards and a par of 72, Lafayette Muni balances length and maneuverability. It invites golfers to focus on shot placement rather than power alone. Bunkers are positioned to guard the greener approaches rather than overwhelm, while water hazards appear sparingly but strategically enough to keep rounds engaging.
Facilities include a welcoming clubhouse that supports both casual rounds and community events, with staff noted for their helpful and cordial service. The course provides affordable rounds with cart rental options, though walking is a popular choice for those wanting to experience the course’s measured pace and natural contours. Practical advice suggests wearing comfortable golf shoes suitable for soft terrain, as weather can render certain holes softer than usual.
Lafayette Municipal is notable for its role as a hub of local golf, offering an inviting environment free from pretense. While it may not boast intricate architectural elements, its straightforward and maintained layout ensures a solid, enjoyable golf experience that suits weekend players and regulars alike. Whether seeking a relaxed day on the course or to sharpen fundamentals, Lafayette Muni represents a reliable, community-centered place to play in south Louisiana.
Course Highlights

Muni is a great public course that's in excellent condition. The greens are smooth and manicured, the staff is happy and helpful, and the price for 18 holes with a cart is very reasonable. (Under $50) If you're thinking about going play this course, I highly recommend grabbing your clubs and going out there as soon as possible.

My wife had a business trip down here for a couple of days. Played this course two days in a row. I can't say enough about how nice the staff was ! The course was good ! Hung out with some locals after my last round ! Couldn't have had a better time ! Need to come check them out !

The greens were plugged but never sanded. The greens keeper or whoever is in charge of maintenance should be terminated. Charging citizens to play golf there today should be ashamed to let this happen. Plugging greens that have fungus on them isn't knowledgeable enough to manage that golf course.
