Westchester Golf Course

Los Angeles, California, USASouth Bay Los Angeles

Westchester Golf Course is a compact 18-hole layout in Los Angeles known for its approachable design and unique night golf experience. Offering a mix of par-3 and par-4 holes, it is perfect for quick yet engaging rounds under both sunlight and stadium lighting.

Course Overview

Westchester Golf Course offers a unique 18-hole layout tailored for accessibility and casual play, making it a favored destination for golfers across all skill levels in Los Angeles. Spanning approximately 4,300 yards, the course presents a compact yet engaging mix of 9 par-3 holes, 8 par-4s, and a single par-5, challenging players to focus on precision rather than length. This approachable format is ideal for those seeking a quicker round without sacrificing the essentials of strategic golf.

The course’s links-style design reflects an urban edge shaped by its close proximity to Los Angeles International Airport. While the constant hum and occasional roar of airplanes overhead introduce a lively soundtrack to the round, the vantage points offer open skies and sweeping views that create a sense of openness unusual in a dense city setting. Players are invited to adjust their tempo to the rhythms of the environment, with winds occasionally stirring the fairways and adding an extra layer of challenge to club selection and shot execution.

Westchester is especially well known for its pioneering evening play experience. Equipped with lights, it stands out as one of the few municipal courses in the area that allows for post-sunset rounds, extending playtime and encouraging a vibrant community atmosphere during twilight hours. Whether you’re practicing your swing under the sun or testing your putting in the glow of nighttime lamps, the course accommodates flexible scheduling and welcomes a variety of playing styles.

Maintenance at Westchester continues to improve, with faster-running greens and clearly defined rough areas that reward accuracy and strategic decisions. The course maintains a friendly pace of play despite occasional waits on early holes, helping to balance enjoyment with efficiency. Amenities include a pro shop and practice facilities that support golfers aiming to refine their skills.

Visitors should note that golf carts are available by request, though walking is encouraged for a more traditional experience. Comfortable walking shoes and light gear are advisable, especially when playing after dark. Westchester Golf Course delivers a uniquely urban golfing experience, blending accessibility, community spirit, and a distinctive setting that invites both newcomers and seasoned players to enjoy a round without the typical pressures of championship layouts.

Course Highlights

Westchester's most distinguishing feature is its illumination system that allows golf after dark, a rarity among municipal courses. The layout balances short distance with strategic challenges, especially with wind influence and fast greens. Its proximity to LAX introduces a distinctive sonic backdrop, while clearly defined rough and well-maintained greens reflect ongoing improvements. The course’s blend of par-3 intensity and approachable par-4s caters to a wide golfer demographic.

Third Edit: I spoke with the manager, Chris, who assured me that the incident was an error on their part. He has addressed the issue with the staff to prevent it from happening again in the future. I appreciate his proactive approach in resolving this matter. I am changing my rating from 1 star to 5 stars. —————— I need to edit my previous post after receiving a heartwarming response from management. Apparently, arriving just 2 minutes after your scheduled tee time creates such a significant burden on their closing process that they must turn away individuals who cannot physically walk the course. I truly appreciate the Westchester team's commitment to excellence. ————- Horrible experience at Westchester Golf Course! We arrived right on time at 5:58 PM with a disabled veteran we wanted to take on the course, only to be denied a golf cart, while others in front of us were still getting theirs. The management is a complete joke and showed zero compassion. They ruined our reservation and disrespected someone who served our country. If we had any other option, we’d never come back. Avoid this place at all costs. One star is far too generous for such awful service.

It's next to LAX, so you can walk and use a cart when you have time. It's flat and the temperature is good, so you can enjoy golfing anytime.

Westchester Golf Course is a gem, especially for those who love to play after dark! The fact that they have lights makes it one of the best spots in the area for evening rounds, allowing you to enjoy the game even after the sun goes down. Beyond the convenience, the staff and fellow golfers create a welcoming and friendly environment, making it a great place for both beginners and experienced players. Whether you’re learning the game or just looking for a casual round in a relaxed setting, Westchester delivers. Well-maintained, accessible, and perfect for all skill levels—I highly recommend it!

It’s been getting better and better here. The greens have been running fast and real good for a muni. They’re defining rough in places. Play the 1st hole slow, as the wait on #2 can get lengthy.

I’m in love with this golf course. I’m in love with Golf. This is the Disneyland for golfers. I’d rather do this than go shopping. Anyone that gave me 20,000 to go shopping I decline! This the best place on earth.

After 6p.m. tee time drops down to $25 and the driving range is usually available.

The course itself is really fun, very short 18 hole course with approx 4300 yards. We played around 4-4.5 hours with little to almost no waiting times. 9 par 3, 8 par 4 and just one par 5. absolute downside is every couple minutes extremely loud noises of the airplanes once it’s right next to the airport, this ruined the game abit for me.
