Copper Cove Golf Club

Hardy, Virginia, USASmith Mountain Lake Region

Copper Cove Golf Club blends rolling hills and lakefront views into an 18-hole course that challenges golfers with elevation changes and strategic shot-making. With smooth greens and a welcoming clubhouse atmosphere, it offers an appealing golf experience for players of all skill levels.

Course Overview

Situated on the scenic shores of Smith Mountain Lake, Copper Cove Golf Club offers an 18-hole layout that blends natural topography with thoughtful design to challenge golfers at every level. The course features rolling hills, elevation changes, and well-maintained fairways that wind through a landscape rich with lake views and abundant wildlife. This semi-private club extends a warm, welcoming atmosphere while maintaining a championship-level playing experience for its members and guests.

The defining characteristic of Copper Cove lies in its elevation shifts that test both club selection and shot execution. Each hole presents a distinct challenge, often incorporating unexpected doglegs or tight landing areas guarded by strategically placed bunkers. The greens are notably smooth though tend toward slower speeds, requiring a patient putting stroke and careful reading of slopes. Players often find themselves weighing the benefits of aggression with more conservative play, as the layout rewards thoughtful strategy over sheer distance.

Fairways are generally generous, particularly accommodating mid to high handicaps, but the course demands precision when navigating elevated tees and approaches. With relatively short yardage compared to some resort courses, Copper Cove invites players to experiment with a mix of clubs rather than relying solely on driver off the tee. This encourages a balanced game that appeals both to those seeking friendly round enjoyment and those aspiring to lower scores.

Beyond the course, the clubhouse offers a clean and comfortable setting with a full-service pro shop and a bar and grill that serves quality food and drink, perfect for regrouping after a round. Golf carts are available and well maintained, adding convenience without diminishing the option to walk, which many enjoy to fully appreciate the varied terrain and lake vistas. Friendly staff members foster a welcoming environment, enhancing the overall visit.

For a day on the course punctuated by natural beauty, engaging play, and dependable amenities, Copper Cove Golf Club provides an appealing destination within Virginia’s lake region. Whether it’s a leisurely round or a test of skill, this course finds a rewarding balance that keeps players returning season after season.

I love this golf course. This is a stunning golf course on smith mountain lake. I played in December and March so I have not even seen it in season yet, but the fairways and greens were in great condition. It’s a challenging course with lots of unexpected turns and elevation changes that can challenge even the most seasoned players. I scored a few pars, but mostly struggled. I can’t wait to get back out there and get more acquainted with this course and break 90. Highly recommend!

Beautiful course. Pretty challenging lies throughout. Tee boxes and traps need a little work but overall great conditions. Staff was amazing!

A fun course! Relatively short yardage, so you don't feel obligated to pull out driver every teebox. Hole layout was hilly and fun. Greens were a bit long and slow, but easy to get used to and mostly in good shape. I look forward to coming back and trying to beat my score.

For the $$$ a great course. Scott (clubhouse) was first class. Nice practice area and overall the course was in good shape. Definitely enjoyed the back more than the front however all in all a great local course. Would play again and recommend to others

For $50+ I would expect conditions similar to other like priced courses but unfortunately that’s not the case. Similar conditions back to back years Update: back a year later still bad and the staff are the most unfriendly I’ve found but I guess it’s to expect with conditions of the course
