Course Overview

Situated just outside Mount Vernon, Washington, Overlook Golf Course offers a compact 9-hole experience that balances accessibility with scenic charm. This public course, ideal for beginners and players honing their short game, occupies a unique vantage point overlooking Big Lake, where stretches of water occasionally challenge the layout and provide a tranquil backdrop to each swing. The course’s design favors approach shots and putting precision, making it an inviting environment for those looking to refine fundamentals without the pressure of length or complexity.

Spatially concise, Overlook features a mix of par 3s and shorter par 4s that encourage strategic shot-making rather than raw distance. Fairways tend to be firm underfoot, and many greens are relatively small, demanding accuracy when setting up putts. The ponds and drainage areas have recently undergone improvements, softening some of the previous water hazards while maintaining their influence on play. Players should expect a course that rewards thoughtful club selection and careful course management.

The atmosphere is relaxed, reinforced by a friendly, family-run operation that welcomes walk-in golfers without requiring tee times. This first-come, first-served policy adds an element of spontaneous adventure, although weekend visits can bring moderate crowds due to the course's popularity and affordable rates. Facilities are straightforward; while there is no restaurant or beverage cart, refreshments are available at the office to keep players refreshed between holes.

Walking the course is encouraged, though golfers should prepare for firm turf and occasional standing water near the greens. Comfortable, water-resistant footwear will enhance the experience, especially in damp conditions. Overlook is a solid choice for those new to golf or looking for a scenic, approachable course to practice short iron precision and putting under relatively calm conditions.

For visitors aiming to explore golf in the Skagit Valley region, Overlook blends natural beauty with practical playability, offering accessible golfing alongside stunning views of Big Lake that engage the senses without overwhelming the player.

My favorite golf course! A short one but it's really located at a beautiful location overlooking Big Lake! A family owned place with a very friendly staff! No tee times required first come first serve!

Lots of work done to the course this spring with enlargement and cleaning of the ponds/drainage...one par 5 several short par 4s and a bunch of par 3s many with nice views of big lake a fun place to play for a reasonable price

It's a nice course but very short. It's a good place to practice your short-game. The fairways are rock hard and the greens are small and a little swampy in places. Staff is very friendly.

Fun smaller course with great views and some challenging holes. They don’t take tee times so show up and hit the course. One of the least expensive courses around.

Terrible! Not cheap, and no discount for construction, basically the entire 2nd hole is gone, less than half the advertised length and the green is just a spot on the fairway they stuck a flag in. Rest of the course is very mediocre, no sand traps, not even real fairway. No ranger, I was hit into to and watch others get hit into. What are you paying for?
