Bonita Golf Course

Bonita, California, USASan Diego

Bonita Golf Course is a public 18-hole layout in Southern San Diego known for its smooth greens, approachable design, and scenic parkland setting. Suitable for golfers of varying skill levels, it provides a balanced challenge framed by gentle hills and mature trees.

Course Overview

Set against the rolling hills and open terrain of Southern San Diego, Bonita Golf Course offers a welcoming public layout that challenges and charms golfers of all levels. This 18-hole course features a predominantly flat design, accented by subtle elevation changes that influence shot selection and overall strategy. The course’s parkland style incorporates mature trees and carved fairways, providing pockets of shade and framed vistas that shift with the direction of play.

Bonita’s greens are well-regarded for their smoothness and consistency, presenting moderately undulating surfaces that reward precise approach shots and touchy putting. The routing guides players on a looping path that occasionally circles back toward the clubhouse, inviting a relaxed pace but demanding navigation attention due to limited signage. This fluid design integrates a balance of straightforward par 4s and thoughtful par 3s, rewarding players who can manage distance control and adapt to tricky wind patterns that often sweep across the course.

The course’s friendly yet challenging character makes it a practical choice for beginners aiming to develop skills while still appealing to experienced golfers seeking a full test of their short game and course management. Local players appreciate the value and accessibility offered here, though weekend tee times are known to draw larger groups, sometimes extending rounds longer than expected.

Beyond the fairways, Bonita Golf Course complements its play with a modest but serviceable clubhouse and snack shack, offering a casual atmosphere where players can refuel and share stories. The surrounding environment includes a multi-use trail along the perimeter, frequented by walkers and horseback riders, which adds to the outdoor experience without intruding on the golf.

Golfers considering their visit should note the course’s reputation for steady green conditions and well-kept fairways, balanced against occasional maintenance areas. Walking the course is encouraged, with a mostly flat terrain that suits all but the most casual pedestrians. For those seeking accessible Southern California golf with a true neighborhood feel and scenic views, Bonita Golf Course delivers a laid-back round with enough variety to sharpen skills and enjoy time outdoors.

Course Highlights

Bonita features smooth, consistent greens and a layout that incorporates gentle elevation shifts and mature tree-lined fairways. Bonita Golf Course is in great condition for August on about 80% of the holes. The rest were still okay but some fairway damage. We really enjoyed it. The holes are mostly flat but there are still plenty of challenges. If we were not playing with regulars we would have gotten lost making our way from hole to hole. Not laid out or signed very well. But still fun. The green rolled quick and true and were in good shape. Around the outside of the course there is a hiking/walking trail, that had people riding horses. Great treat in the San Diego area for not too much money.

$72 dollars and every other green had massive chunks taken out, no ball washer station and even no yardages at the tee boxes. How is this place more expensive than Balboa? I asked a lot of the regulars if it typically takes 5 hours to finish the 18, they said yes. LONG day of waiting at the tee box. It gets a star for layout though. The layout is a good time with a lot of circling back to the club house and snack shack.

After being turned away by a nearby pretentious course, I came to Bonita just to teach my brother the basics. The staff welcomed us without hesitation and even joked that we could show up in ski suits and they’d still let us practice. That’s the kind of place this is friendly, laid-back, and actually about the love of the game. Great facility, beautiful course, and a packed 19th hole pub full of real golfers.

Definitely, recommended if you’re on a tight budget. Our wedding theme was Simple Elegant. We’re both minimalist. We drove down from AZ, great thing we managed to pack light for the decor etc., our friends helped too. Hands down! Working with Keli for 9 months has been rewarding. She is great a communicator, a team player, attentive to details, visionary, flexible and supportive. She is not a typical salesman. You will not burnt out your wallet with this venue. No hidden fees. This don’t happen often, surprisingly, we paid less than what we originally budgeted for the venue cost. That alone is a blessing! On the wedding day, her team was so kind to working with us during the ceremony, we were 30 mins delay and had to push back the lunch schedule as well. We did not get extra charged. They took care of my high anxiety with their patience. The food was 100% amazing. Great choice ordering the lemon chicken and beef brisket buffet style. Our wedding guests could not stop talking about the delicious meal. The space was indeed what we asked for any sizes of 50-300 guests. We had 120 guests attended on a Saturday afternoon (paid for 150 people no refunds unattended), there were still plenty of space inside and available seatings. The outside was stunning. People love the Mountain View background and greenery golf grass. I enjoy the easy access to the parking lot and clubhouse. We brought our own desserts which saved us a ton of money. They provided microphones, iPhone adapter for our iPhone Spotify playlist songs, a podium, refrigerator, table cloths, easel, and extra outside set up tables all for free of charged. I can go on and on! Bottom line, I don't have bad news to say about this venue. Give her a call, be up front what you're looking for, she'll work with your budget. #nudrew2023 #staymarried #weddingvenue #glorydays

I’ve been stopping in to the restaurant/Bar here one or twice a week for the past few weeks when I’m in the area for lunch and a drink between appointments. Today I was sitting there as usual with my iPad planning a family trip and a lady who claims is a manager walks up to me and says “for future reference we aren’t allowing people to work out of here anymore”. Apparently it “ruins the vibe”. I’ve never had an issue here before and hadn’t the 30 minutes before she showed up. I turned my iPad around and said I’m not working I’m planning a family trip and she shrugged her shoulders and repeated “it ruins the vibe”…… huh?!?! Apparently, if you’re a business person, don’t come to this golf course with a client because it “ruins the vibe”! If that’s the way they treat good & repeat customers here, I don’t. Know how they stay in business like that. Absolutely terrible!
