Course Overview

Brookside Par 3 Golf Course provides a focused and inviting setting for golfers seeking to refine their short game or enjoy a quick round without sacrificing challenge. This 9-hole par-3 layout sits within Roanoke, Virginia, offering a compact yet thoughtfully designed stretch of holes that cater largely to beginners, juniors, and those practicing approach shots. The course’s straightforward routing avoids complexity but encourages precision as each hole demands accurate iron play with a premium on distance control and green reading.

Lush fairways and closely positioned tees invite players to test their iron work amid a predominantly flat landscape dotted with gentle undulations. The greens, while varying in size, require meticulous attention, blending subtle breaks that resist rushed putting strokes. The course’s reputation for being approachable extends to players of all skill levels, with ample room to experiment and build confidence without the pressures typical of championship layouts.

Brookside offers a community-oriented atmosphere, reflected in its welcoming staff and a pace of play that suits families and casual players alike. However, recent reviews have noted some decline in green conditions, a factor to weigh when planning a visit. Amenities remain modest, consistent with its focus on short game practice, but the convenient location in Roanoke and reasonable green fees add practical appeal.

Walking is encouraged and easily manageable for most players, making it ideal for those who value exercise combined with skill development. The course’s layout is uncluttered by significant hazards, allowing novices to focus on form and control, while more experienced players can sharpen approach accuracy.

For those looking to integrate efficient practice with casual golf, Brookside Par 3 stands as a straightforward, no-frills venue. While it lacks the grandeur or complexity of full-length courses, it serves a vital role in the local golf landscape, providing a reliable platform for learning and leisure amid familiar surroundings.

Course Highlights

Brookside stands out as a practical par-3 course emphasizing approach shot refinement over longer play. The greens present subtle challenges for pace and break, rewarding attentive putting strokes. While the landscape is modest, the course layout emphasizes clean shot-making and offers a friendly, approachable atmosphere for players new to the game or those focusing on short-game practice.

First time playing Par 3 in almost 30 years, but Jim made us feel welcomed and equipped to have a good time. The course is well spaced and was not too crowded. While the tees, greens, and holes themselves were all perfectly ready to play, some of the benches and such seem like the last they received love and care was last decade. Overall we had a blast and hope to return!

Absolutely terrible. I paid $10 to play and we couldn’t putt. Hole 6 was the only decent green and even then not good. Hole 7 closed and told to play hole 1 as hole 9 again. Tee shots would bounce far past the green. Never again

The Folks Diane and hubby are the nicest folks in Roanoke. The place is great for the community, and a fun place to practice up, greens are hard to read and challenging.

Have been playing this course since 1985 on and off. I live out of town and when we visit family this is one place where we always go. Played here December 14th 2023 and the greens were in really bad shape. Sure is sad to see such a nice place spend an afternoon let go. Hope there is plans to bring back the beauty and fun of this course

5/23/24 - I’ve played this course many times and always enjoyed it. Today was the worst I have seen the greens in years. We Had a nice rain shower come through and was a perfect Thursday evening to play a few holes. From the parking lot it looked like it was in good shape, but no one was there. “Interesting” I thought. Walked to the other side of the building and saw why. The practice green would have been better if it was dirt. Despite the rain and the guy working there telling me the greens would be receptive my first shot landed a couple feet from the flag and bounced over the back. The rest of the greens looked like pictures of the putting green…very poor condition mostly brown dirt. I was not expecting much as it is $11 and I’ve been here before, but you can walk 9 at Hanging Rock for $19 in the evening. I wish it wasn’t true but I will not be going back this year.

This is a real GEM! The lady working there is truly AMAZING. Although it is only 9 holes, it is still so much fun and a great little golf course.I had the privilege of playing with a local guy, Pops, who played excellent. I am definitely planning to make this a regular stop whenever we are in the area. You've got to come and check it out. ALL of the people were so nice and helpful and I felt welcome right away. Keep up the great work, Phifer👍
