Rainier Golf and Country Club in Seattle delivers a classic 18-hole, tree-lined course that balances approachable play with strategic demands. Known for its undulating greens and standout par-3 and par-5 holes, Rainier offers members a meticulously maintained setting enriched by excellent clubhouse amenities.

Course Overview

Rainier Golf and Country Club, located just south of Seattle in the vibrant Des Moines neighborhood, offers a classic, tree-lined layout that challenges and rewards players with a thoughtfully maintained 18-hole course. Established in 1919, this private club blends traditional golf architecture with Pacific Northwest scenery, presenting a course that is approachable yet demands precision at every turn. The fairways are framed by mature evergreens, a feature that adds both beauty and strategic complexity, requiring controlled tee shots that avoid well-placed hazards and dense rough.

Playing Rainier means navigating modest length holes combined with undulating greens that test putting skills and short game finesse. The par-3 15th hole stands out as a precise wedge shot over a pond, demanding exact distance control, while the par-5 16th features a water hazard reminiscent of famed courses to catch wayward approaches. The course’s tree-lined design naturally channels play and rewards thoughtful shot placement, making it a compelling challenge for mid- to low-handicap players while remaining fair and enjoyable for higher handicaps who value shot-shaping opportunities.

Beyond its playing surface, Rainier Golf and Country Club offers a clubhouse with sweeping glass walls that provide panoramic views of the course and surrounding landscape. The facilities include spacious dining areas noted for excellent cuisine and a welcoming atmosphere, ideal for post-round relaxation or club events. Members also benefit from swimming amenities and well-organized social gatherings year-round.

The course is well-suited for those who appreciate a blend of tradition and natural beauty, with its immaculately maintained greens and tree-lined corridors. Although players might notice aircraft noise from SeaTac Airport, it blends into the rhythm of the day and does little to detract from the overall experience. Walking is encouraged to fully appreciate the course’s quiet pockets and subtle elevation changes, with sturdy footwear recommended given the lush terrain. Rainier Golf and Country Club presents a measured, rewarding test set within an inviting environment that respects golf’s enduring appeal.

Course Highlights

The course is distinguished by tree-lined fairways that channel golfers through strategic challenges. The people, the golf course, the service all are top notch. Our family have only been members for 8 months but it has been amazing. The holiday brunches and family events have been a huge hit and we look forward to many more over the years to come. The golf course is always in fabulous condition and it's a pleasure to treat friends and clients to a round.

Nice place to gather. Parking is very short walk from lobby. There's a swimming area, large reception area and spacious dining floor with glass walls. I would recommend it for events.

1st thank you to the club and members for allowing our tournament to be here. Built in 1919, feels like your in time machine when in the mens locker room. The golf course is just a pleasure to play, not really long but tree lined fairways and undulating greens keep it a good test. The 15th is a great short par 3 that requires a precise wedge and the pond that fronts the par 5 16th reminds me of Augusta's 15th with a shaved bank waiting to punish any approach shots that come up short. Only downside was the constant aircrafts landing at nearby SeaTac, but you get used to it.
