Rainier Golf and Country Club

Seattle, Washington, USAPuget Sound

Rainier Golf and Country Club offers a classic parkland experience just south of Seattle, blending strategic fairways and undulating greens with the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. This 18-hole course strikes a balance between approachability and challenge, making it a favorite among local golfers.

Course Overview

Rainier Golf and Country Club, established in 1919, offers an 18-hole layout that challenges players with its classic parkland design set against the lush backdrop of Seattle's southern outskirts. The course weaves through mature trees and gently rolling fairways, creating a playing field that rewards strategic shot-making and thoughtful club selection. While not imposing in length, Rainier demands precision with frequent tree-lined corridors and sharply contoured greens that test approach shots and putting alike.

The terrain feels deliberate, with fairways that subtly undulate and greens that sink and rise just enough to keep scoring under par from being routine. Holes like the 15th, a short par 3, require a deft wedge to clear the hazards and land softly on deceptive surfaces. The adjacent par 5 16th, guarded by a water hazard reminiscent of Augusta’s famed 15th, punishes any miscalculations, adding a thrilling risk-reward element during the back nine.

Throughout the round, a chorus of towering evergreens frames the course, creating pockets of calm that contrast with the occasional hum from nearby SeaTac airport. This ambient soundtrack gradually becomes part of the rhythm and atmosphere unique to Rainier. The course is equally welcoming to players seeking both a serious test and an enjoyable day out, striking a balance between accessibility and challenge.

Members enjoy well-maintained facilities including a spacious clubhouse with panoramic glass walls, offering scenic views and excellent dining options. Walking the course is encouraged, with terrain that is manageable for most and a smooth pace of play that complements the tranquil setting.

Rainier Golf and Country Club’s blend of classic design and natural beauty makes it a compelling choice for golfers in the Seattle area. Its thoughtful layout encourages both tactical play and appreciation of the lush Pacific Northwest environment, promising a memorable golf experience any time of year.

Course Highlights

Rainier’s mature tree-lined fairways and undulating greens provide a strategic challenge amid a serene landscape. The short par 3 15th hole demands precision wedge play, while the par 5 16th, with a water hazard that guards its green, offers a risk-reward scenario reminiscent of famed tournament holes. The course’s layout masterfully balances playability for all skill levels with features that engage low-handicap golfers.

1st thank you to the club and members for allowing our tournament to be here. Built in 1919, feels like your in time machine when in the mens locker room. The golf course is just a pleasure to play, not really long but tree lined fairways and undulating greens keep it a good test. The 15th is a great short par 3 that requires a precise wedge and the pond that fronts the par 5 16th reminds me of Augusta's 15th with a shaved bank waiting to punish any approach shots that come up short. Only downside was the constant aircrafts landing at nearby SeaTac, but you get used to it.

The golf course is always in fabulous condition and it's a pleasure to treat friends and clients to a round.
