Claremont Golf Club

Portland, Oregon, USAPortland Metro Area

Claremont Golf Club in Portland, Oregon, offers a well-maintained, accessible 9-hole course with a rewarding mix of par 5s and a challenging par 3. Its open layout and steady greens provide a satisfying experience for golfers at all levels looking for a focused, quick round.

Course Overview

Located in Portland’s Northwest corridor, Claremont Golf Club offers a refreshing approach to the classic 9-hole layout. This public course strikes a balance between accessibility and challenge, making it well-suited for golfers of all skill levels seeking a quick yet satisfying round. The course stretches just over 3,000 yards from the white tees, featuring a mix of hole lengths that demand thoughtful strategy rather than sheer power.

Claremont’s layout unfolds across gently rolling terrain, where well-maintained fairways guide play along a thoughtfully arranged route. The design includes two par 5 holes that challenge players with distances exceeding 450 yards, requiring both precision off the tee and measured approaches. The lone par 3 stands out with its length, pushing 185 yards from the white tees and demanding an accurate tee shot to avoid trouble.

Greens at Claremont maintain consistent speed and smoothness, offering a fair test of putting without overwhelming casual players. The condition of the course tends to be reliable, supported by a dedicated grounds crew that keeps the turf healthy throughout the year. While recent experiences suggest the pace of play can occasionally slow, the course is generally walkable and forgiving in that regard. The facility supports this with a driving range, two hitting bays, as well as comprehensive chipping and putting areas for pre-round warmups.

The setting is straightforward, with clean lines and minimal distraction, letting the game focus firmly on shot-making and course management. The absence of dense vegetation or significant elevation changes allows players to maintain rhythm while encountering some subtle challenges, such as well-placed bunkers guarding key landing zones.

For golfers pressed for time or those seeking an enjoyable afternoon round where every hole packs a thoughtful test, Claremont provides that opportunity. Its approachable nature and solid conditioning make it a popular choice among local players who appreciate a course that rewards care without punishing error excessively. Visitors will find friendly staff, reliable facilities, and a pleasant atmosphere that encourages both practice and play.

Course Highlights

Claremont’s notable features include two lengthy par 5s that test distance and accuracy, a standout long par 3 demanding precision, and well-maintained greens that provide consistent putting surfaces. The course is generally okay — I like the layout and the fact that it's easy to walk. It’s a good length and can be a fun round. However, the value doesn’t always match the cost. We paid around $60 for two people to walk on a rainy day, and the course conditions didn’t reflect that price. The greens weren’t in great shape, and the rough was so overgrown it was nearly unplayable — our group lost multiple balls because of it. Under those conditions, a discounted rate would’ve made a lot more sense. Staff-wise, the pro shop folks are usually friendly, but we’ve had some frustrating experiences with the starters recently. For example, today (April 6), my partner and I arrived over 30 minutes early and were warming up when the starter reprimanded us for another couple in our group not being there 15 minutes early. We were on time, and the other couple arrived 5 minutes before the scheduled tee time. Despite that, we still teed off early. Rather than addressing the actual "late arrivals" (who on paper were 5 minutes before the scheduled tee time), the starter directed all of her frustration at us — which made the interaction feel needlessly hostile, especially since we had no control over when the other players arrived. She even asked if I had called them, which didn’t feel like my responsibility — especially considering I didn’t book the tee time or have their contact info. She followed that with a lecture about the importance of arriving early, which felt ironic and unnecessary given that we were early. It came off more like a power trip than helpful course management, particularly since we caught up to the group ahead of us quickly and there was no one behind us in sight. It wasn’t a huge incident, but it left a bad taste and honestly affected the round. I was distracted the whole time because the interaction felt unfair and avoidable. We’ve had similar encounters here before, which is disappointing. For example, last year someone in the pro shop insisted I had a particular tee time, even after I told them mine was different. They didn’t seem to be listening, and when I saw the couple they were trying to say I was, it turned out they were the same race as me. My partner made the reservation and is a different race, and his last name sounds NOTHING like the name of the group they mixed us up with. I’m not sure if it was stereotyping, but it felt really uncomfortable — especially given how insistent they were about saying that was my tee time and name instead of just confirming my provided name and tee time. I still enjoy parts of the course, but between inconsistent customer service and the mismatch between price and course conditions, it’s hard to fully recommend without a few caveats.

Great 9 hole, two par 5's and two par 3's. The perfect set up for a quick round. The course is immaculate and the staff are friendly. The starter gal working on Easter was very nice, and gave me some pointers to keep me out of trouble on hole 8. I ended up sinking one anyway but appreciated the tip!

This course is a great course. Nine holes , great for a round after work. . This course is not an executive course, 1 par 3 sitting at whites 185 and two par 5’s reaching over 450 and 500 yards. Come out and give it a try, you will come back.

I’ve golfed here numerous times throughout the years and Claremont offers great prices year round. The course is always in great playing condition thanks to the maintenance staff and residents. Staff are always friendly. Playing here on a sunny day is one of my favorite things to do, it offers challenges like a long Par 5 on hole 2 and then one of my favorite holes being the Dogleg on hole 5. I 100% recommend this golf course to new or experienced golfers as it is one of my favorite courses in the area.

Claremont Golf Club located NW Portland area. A bit expensive for 9 holes @ 28 bucks, but nonetheless they keep it in great shape. Greens always seem to roll pretty true, speed is usually medium. Claremont offers a nice chipping and putting green to warm up on with 2 hitting bays. The course can play a little slow. Claremont is for all levels of skill, must check out if your an avid golfer or just looking for a fun round of 9 hole golf.
