Oak Valley Golf Club

Advance, North Carolina, USAPiedmont Triad

Oak Valley Golf Club in Advance, NC offers a challenging 18-hole public course designed by Arnold Palmer. Known for its fast greens, well-kept fairways, and appealing natural setting, it suits golfers seeking a rewarding test with varied terrain and impeccable conditioning.

Course Overview

Oak Valley Golf Club stands as a fine example of an 18-hole public championship course, designed to offer both challenge and enjoyment across a range of skill levels. Located in Advance, North Carolina, this Arnold Palmer layout leverages the natural contours of the Piedmont region to craft a course that demands thoughtful shot execution without feeling overwhelming for casual players. The course extends just over 7,100 yards from the back tees and plays to a par of 71, blending well-maintained fairways with fast, receptive greens that reward precision.

Playing Oak Valley unveils varied terrain where elevation changes subtly influence club selection and shot strategy. Fairways present a mix of generous landing areas and tighter corridors lined by mature pines and hardwoods, making course management a crucial element of scoring. The rough is notably thick, penalizing wayward shots, especially for those venturing off the fairways. Greens can run firm and true, often hovering around speeds of 12 to 13 on the Stimpmeter, inviting rich putting challenges whether you’re attacking pins front-left or guarding the back corners.

The clubhouse provides a welcoming hub featuring amenities typical of a modern golf facility, with a well-stocked pro shop and sizeable practice areas that allow players to warm up or fine-tune their wedge game. Though the course is public, it maintains a private club atmosphere in terms of course condition and service standards. Walking the course is a rewarding option, with gentle elevation shifts and carefully maintained cart paths encouraging foot traffic, but golf carts are readily available for those who prefer them.

Birdlife enriches the experience as herons and other native species often appear along water hazards and wetland areas placed thoughtfully throughout the layout. Several holes demand careful navigation around these natural features, most notably the par-4 7th and par-3 16th, where water and bunkers conspire to test accuracy.

Oak Valley Golf Club invites players seeking a blend of classic Arnold Palmer design elements and demanding playability within a serene North Carolina setting. Whether you are chasing a personal best or simply enjoying a well-crafted day on the course, the experience here is one of deliberate composition and lasting appeal.

One of my favorite golf courses to play on since moving to Winston-Salem. We have family who live in Oak Valley so it's pleasantly convenient for us to come here when we visit them. The course offers a variety of layouts to play from that keep things interesting and it's always well-kept.

Some finishing touches need to be attended to—- clean up grass clippings and add club cleaning stands on driving range along with waste baskets and get carts with club cleaning devices on the side

Fell in love with this place. I played here a few days after an event at the beginning of October and the place was spectacular. Greens very receptive but smooth and fast. Rough was thick and definitely where you don't want to be. I already have a tee time to go back I loved it that much. Plus this is an Arnold Palmer course and he's from my home state.

Had a great time, it was a little backed up, but still an amazing course. Buddy of mine almost got an ace! Palmer made a good layout.
