Duck Woods Country Club offers a private 18-hole parkland course where water hazards and coastal winds challenge golfers of all levels. Set on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, this course rewards strategic play within a quiet, natural environment.

Course Overview

Duck Woods Country Club, located in Southern Shores, North Carolina, is an 18-hole private golf course set against the natural beauty of the Outer Banks. The course reflects a classic parkland style, weaving through gently rolling terrain punctuated by numerous water hazards that demand thoughtful course management. This layout offers an engaging challenge for golfers who appreciate risk-reward golf, as ponds and marshlands intertwine with the fairways, ensuring that every shot requires precision and strategic planning.

The course unfolds within a quiet, wooded environment, where the sounds of local wildlife and gentle coastal breezes punctuate the round. Mature trees frame many of the holes, providing a sense of seclusion and intimacy rarely found in resort settings. While the course’s design favors strategic shot placement and offers multiple avenues to the green, it remains accessible to a variety of skill levels, making it a rewarding venue for both serious players and enthusiastic members looking to enjoy a round in natural surroundings.

Play at Duck Woods is characterized by thoughtful routing that balances exposure to water with well-maintained fairways and greens. Although some reviews highlight maintenance challenges, especially regarding turf consistency in certain areas, the course’s signature collection of pronounced water features continues to define its character. Golfers who favor a methodical approach will appreciate the layout’s emphasis on accuracy over power, with longer hitters needing to weigh risk carefully against reward.

Complementing the course is a welcoming clubhouse offering essential amenities, including a pro shop staffed with friendly professionals ready to assist members. The club’s social ambiance reinforces its community-driven spirit, bolstered by a caddie program that enhances the walking experience. Dress codes and member policies maintain a traditional, respectful atmosphere that reflects the club’s private status.

Visitors should plan for comfortable walking shoes, as the terrain is mostly gentle but includes varied footing near water hazards and lightly wooded sections. Those seeking a private-challenge blend golf venue in the Central Outer Banks region will find Duck Woods Country Club presents an authentic test of golf shaped by coastal influences and a serene setting that connects golfers to both sport and nature.

Course Highlights

The course’s defining elements include numerous water hazards strategically positioned to influence tee shots and approaches, mature coastal pines lining the fairways, and a layout demanding strategic shot-making over sheer length. The greens offer subtle breaks that reward precise putting and course management. Several holes run along natural wetlands, integrating wildlife sightings and ambient coastal breezes that test tempo and club selection.

A fun course to play with lots of challenging water hazards - couldn't ask for a better spot to go out and play a round. Beautiful course with lots of wildlife, filling your round with lovely bird sounds, but watch for stray turtles crossing the fairway! Friendly staff in the Pro Shop at check-in.

Golf Staff were very friendly and course has a beautiful design. The course was not in the best shape however and needs a new greenskeeper. The man who served us at the restaurant was not very friendly.

Just played yesterday 6/1/23 for the first time. Heard great things from friends past years. Golf course was a dog track and worst course in the area. Course condition was not great at all for being private. Lot of bare spots all over fairways and rough. Greens were ok but mostly hitting of dirt and grass patches everywhere else. Save your money and go ANYWHERE else.

Today, we gather to remember and honor the incredible life of our dear friend, Captain Ken. The news of his sudden passing has left us in profound grief, and our hearts ache as we struggle to comprehend a world without his vibrant presence. Ken was a man who embodied the spirit of life, love, and friendship. Hailing from New York, Ken lived a life full of color and joy, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met. His infectious smile and warm demeanor made him a friend to all. Whether you knew him for a moment or a lifetime, you were instantly drawn to his friendly nature and generous heart. Ken was more than just a man of great character; he was a man of many passions. A proud member of Duck Woods Country Club, Ken’s love for golf was legendary. He wasn’t just a player; he was a connoisseur of the game. The green was his sanctuary, a place where he found peace and shared countless laughs with friends. His passion for golf was matched only by his impeccable fashion sense. Ken had a style that was all his own—a trendsetter whose flair could be felt from New York to the farthest corners of the globe. Jewelry was another of Ken’s great loves. He had an eye for the finest pieces, each item a testament to his refined taste and appreciation for beauty. And, of course, who could forget his beloved Bentley? It wasn’t just a car to Ken; it was a symbol of his love for the finer things in life, a reflection of his distinguished taste and class. But beyond his passions and possessions, it was Ken’s heart of gold that truly defined him. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, to listen, to laugh, and to love. His kindness knew no bounds, and his generosity touched the lives of so many. Ken was the kind of person who made the world a better place just by being in it. We were blessed to have known him, and we are better people because of the time we shared with him. His sudden departure from this world while in Cyprus has left a void that can never be filled, but we take solace in the countless memories he left behind. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived. Captain Ken was a friend, a brother, and a true gentleman. His legacy of love, friendship, and style will continue to inspire us all. Rest in peace, dear Ken. You will be missed more than words can express, but you will live on in our hearts forever.
