Nags Head Golf Links

Nags Head, North Carolina, USAOuter Banks

Nags Head Golf Links offers an 18-hole public links-style course where ocean views meet strategic design. Set along the Pamlico Sound, the course challenges precision and creativity against coastal winds while delivering a memorable seaside round.

Course Overview

Nags Head Golf Links presents an 18-hole public course framed by striking views of the Pamlico Sound and the Atlantic coastline. Located in the heart of Nags Head, North Carolina, this links-style layout blends natural seaside elements with a thoughtfully crafted challenge designed to engage golfers of varying abilities. The course’s routing takes full advantage of its oceanfront position, where gentle sea breezes push players to consider strategy over brute force.

From the first tee, the fairways weave through low dunes and native grasses, offering a classic coastal experience that tests precision and course management. The greens are known for their smoothness and subtle breaks, rewarding accurate approach shots and confident putting strokes. While the routing does not stretch extreme yardages, the narrow fairways and strategically placed bunkers create scoring opportunities only for those who can balance patience with aggression. The back nine especially reveals stunning vistas, where holes often play alongside the shimmering waters, adding a serene yet stimulating atmosphere.

Maintenance at Nags Head Golf Links is exemplary, with fairways consistently well-manicured and greens running true throughout the season. The course retains a firm and fast character during drier months, which suits players who enjoy shot shaping and risk-reward scenarios. The wind factor cannot be underestimated; regular coastal gusts demand thoughtful club selection and shot trajectory control.

Beyond golf, amenities include a welcoming clubhouse with dining options and a well-stocked pro shop. Players will appreciate the courteous staff and smooth pace of play, offering both locals and visitors an accessible but rewarding outing. Walking is encouraged, allowing players to immerse themselves in the coastal air and natural scenery, though carts are available upon request.

Nags Head Golf Links balances a genuine Outer Banks golf experience with a design that emphasizes intelligent play, making it a compelling destination for those seeking both challenge and coastal charm.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Nags Head Golf Links is hands down one of the most scenic and enjoyable courses I’ve ever played! The views of the sound are absolutely breathtaking, especially on the back nine, and the layout offers the perfect blend of challenge and fun. The course was in excellent shape—fast greens, well-maintained fairways, and just enough wind to keep things interesting. The staff was welcoming and professional, and the pace of play was smooth the entire round. Whether you’re a serious golfer or just looking to enjoy a beautiful day on the course, this place is a must-play on the Outer Banks. Can’t wait to come back!

Quality golf course. Cool design, weaves around the Pamlico Sound and the Nags Head Village. Always in great shape maintenance wise. A bit pricey but to expected on an island. When playing this course, keep in mind that it is a position golf course. Play the angles, hit the greens, and stay out of trouble. The fairways are narrow and offer little forgiveness! Bombing and gouging will not work on this course unless you want to lose a dozen balls. Play smart golf, as the course is not overly long, and you will thoroughly enjoy the challenge.

Cool course views and gimmicky layout. Just a pretty miserable experience though from staff. 8am tee time and we don’t tee off until 8:25. We have a group of 3 & 2. Starter hinted at us playing as a 5some cause it would be a slow day of 4somes ahead. So we joined as a 5some on hole 2 and waited on 3 & 4. While waiting on the 5th tee box ranger approached and said “we can’t have a 5some on the course holding up a 2some”… in which I reply “well you have a 4some holding up a 5some” Several holes later they stop us again and threaten to kick us off the course even though we played 9 holes in almost 3 hours waiting. He suggested we split up or we will be kicked off. In which we replied “so we are going to make it slower for the people behind us playing as 2&3 that’s what your asking” Ranger replied “if slower is what it takes to not play as a 5 then so be it”. Just ludicrous management etiquette. $160 for aerated greens and 5.5hour round and rangers micromanaging the wrong group.

This course sounds like a golfer's paradise. Ocean views always make a round more enjoyable. Friendly staff can really elevate the experience. A beverage cart coming around frequently is definitely a plus. Sounds like a perfect day out.

Beautiful course! We played 18 and took our time enjoying each hole. Sun was out, no crowds or waiting, greens freshly cut, and a fun challenge. We were excited to golf along the ocean, which the pictures and timing of the sunset turned out amazing! The cost per person wasn't overpriced, and staff all friendly and helpful.
