The Currituck Club

Corolla, North Carolina, USAOuter Banks

The Currituck Club in Corolla, North Carolina, delivers a links-style golf experience amid coastal dunes and maritime winds. Its 18 holes blend strategic challenge with approachable design, set against the atmospheric backdrop of the Outer Banks shoreline.

Course Overview

Located in Corolla, North Carolina, The Currituck Club offers an 18-hole, public golf experience characterized by its links-style layout and coastal environment. The course’s design draws upon the natural dunes and maritime landscape of the Outer Banks, incorporating wind and water elements that shape both strategy and shot selection. Players encounter wide, undulating fairways guarded by natural grasses and bunkers that demand thoughtful placement from tee to green.

The setting unfolds alongside marshes and tidal creeks that highlight the region’s unique ecosystem, presenting a tranquil yet lively backdrop. Coastal breezes create an additional layer of challenge, testing even experienced golfers to adjust their trajectory and club choice. This factor, combined with relatively open sightlines, ensures the round is as much about adapting to nature as it is scoring.

The layout balances playability and challenge with multiple tee options to accommodate all skill levels. While the course offers a rewarding test for low handicappers, its forgiving fairways and approachable greens provide an inviting atmosphere for mid and higher handicap players seeking to enjoy a scenic round without overwhelming difficulty. The overall design encourages strategic thinking rather than brute power, making shot management essential.

The facility supports golfers with a clubhouse that includes a pro shop and dining options, catering to both players and visitors looking to relax after their round. Practice facilities allow warm-up and skills refinement. Walking is welcome, though many opt for golf carts due to the course’s coastal terrain and length.

Despite some reviews noting variable course conditions and pace of play at times, The Currituck Club remains a distinctive golf destination on the Outer Banks, blending seaside scenery with a layout shaped by local natural features. This makes it a compelling stop for golfers who appreciate an outdoor challenge framed by maritime influences and a layout that insists on respect for the wind and terrain.

Planning a visit, expect to encounter shifting winds, natural dune grasses framing fairways, and a golf experience shaped consciously by its coastal environment. The Currituck Club invites players to engage with golf in a place where the land and sea quietly but persistently influence every shot.

Course Highlights

The course’s signature characteristics include its integration with coastal dunes and marshlands, expansive fairways framed by natural grasses, and strategic bunkers that challenge approach shots. Conditions were very disappointing for the price. Played and only saw 1 other person on the front nine with us. Every single bunker had a bad rake job from previous players. Given the handful of people that played the day we did, it seems the grounds crew hadn't raked the bunkers in days. For what they charge it's not excusable. And as others have mentioned, a ton of unfixed ball marks on the greens, which again says grounds crew is not up to the job. I'm from the northeast just outside NYC so its very populated and courses see 250+ players a day. They look better than this course for 1/3 the price. Staff is super nice, but the couple minutes you interact with them doesn't justify the greens fee. Avoid. Carts are old and don't have GPS either. I understand they probably don't have the staff they normally do during the peak summer months. But don't charge the same price to customers as if you are still paying a full staff.

Played golf twice during our stay in Corolla. The course is a great layout and was in excellent condition. On the first day we played, it took over five hours and we waited on every tee box. I was hopeful that the marshall would help, but like so many clubs, they just apologize. The second round was much more enjoyable and pace of play was better.

Similar to another review that I just read, our experience started fantastic. Someone greeted us in the parking lot, grabbed our bags and loaded them into our cart, And told us to proceed inside in that our car will be waiting for us by the range. Very quickly things went a little sideways.. We were in the middle of hitting range balls and were asked to start 15 minutes early (didn’t get to finish warming up). We signed up to play nine holes as a twosome and we got paired with two others. While we are not the best golfers in the world, we were thankful that they were not either so we were all just having a good time. At hole 5 the marshal showed, threw his hands in the air, and with an attitude proceeded to say “what’s going on guys? You have a hole and a half open ahead of you and you’re about 12 minutes off pace.” Literally threw off any good time we were having and honestly ruined the rest of the day for us. Course was beautiful but being a grown man and being spoken to like I was a child holding up the line was ridiculous. $100 for 9 holes and didn’t get to enjoy them the way we intended. 10/10 won’t recommend/return.

Course is completely burned out and in terrible shape…they don’t ranger the course so you are on your own for a 5 hour round. All for the low low price of $200. Pretty sad, used to be a decent course.
