Elk Valley Golf Course

Girard, Pennsylvania, USANorthwestern Pennsylvania

Elk Valley Golf Course offers a well-maintained 18-hole public layout marked by approachable playability and gentle elevation shifts. Set in scenic northwestern Pennsylvania, it provides a welcoming atmosphere for golfers looking for challenge balanced with comfort.

Course Overview

Elk Valley Golf Course in Girard, Pennsylvania, presents an 18-hole layout that invites players of varying skill levels to test their game amid a natural and approachable setting. As a public course, it offers a solid balance between challenge and comfort without the formality often associated with private clubs. The design favors playability, with well-maintained fairways and greens that reward strategic shot placement rather than sheer length. Elevation changes and subtle undulations provide an added layer of interest throughout, while the routing guides golfers through a landscape that feels both relaxing and engaging.

The course’s fairways are framed by native trees, creating pockets of shelter that influence shot selection and strategy. The putting surfaces stand out for their consistency and smoothness, allowing putts to hold true but requiring precise reads. Sand bunkers appear sparingly but effectively, positioned to catch errant approach shots and add risk-reward dynamics to several holes.

Players walking the course will appreciate the manageable terrain, though cart paths show signs of wear and may require caution, especially in wetter months. Walking is encouraged, as it deepens familiarity with the nuances of the course’s flow and offers intimate encounters with its quieter moments. Footwear with solid traction will serve well given the occasional uneven patches and roots near the edges.

Elk Valley supports a welcoming environment for casual rounds, practice, and occasional competitive play. Amenities including a clubhouse with dining options enhance the overall experience, perfect for post-round relaxation. The staff attitude and hospitality contribute to the course’s inviting atmosphere, even when pace-of-play challenges arise during busy days.

For golfers seeking a straightforward but thoughtfully crafted layout in northwestern Pennsylvania, Elk Valley Golf Course blends approachable design with enough subtle tests to sharpen skills without overwhelming. It rewards focus and patience, delivering a round that feels both earnest and rewarding amidst a peaceful rural backdrop.

Course Highlights

Elk Valley’s design emphasizes fairway accuracy over power, with smooth greens and strategically placed bunkers. The clubhouse offers casual dining, making it a suitable destination for players seeking a comfortable, uncomplicated round with local flavors.

On my yearly must play list. Every visit it's easy to see the improvements being made. A pleasure to play. The restaurant is excellent for a burger and a cold beer. Play it, you will enjoy your round. ⛳🏌️‍♂️

I played last weekend and expected an ok golf experience but I was completely wrong. Had three groups in front of us that would not let us go past them as they hit the ball a solid 15 yards every shot. I found it interesting as the pace of play is posted on the score card but clearly not adhered to at all. When we went in for the turn to grab food the bartender did great but the new shift coming in was not so great as I was told I should leave. The course had blue tee markers out but only on certain holes so you had to swap to white tees on holes. As a 90 degree rule was in effect the cart paths bottomed out the golf carts at certain points and had huge holes and ruts that made it a washboard.

Go and have fun. Course is a little rough along with the cart paths. A bad day of golf is better than most anything else.

Excellent course. Greens very well kept. Fairways clean, challenging course. The cart paths are what is keeping it from a 5. You’re better off driving a fourwheeler on it.

I’ve golfed here five times so far this summer. It’s a decent enough course but today when I went to worker at the front desk , he was very rude. I am a veteran and every time I go to a golf course I ask to see if they have a veteran discount. First four times I went I got a discount. It was a different amount every time so it was confusing and then today I am told they don’t have a veteran discount very rudely. This same guy gave me a discount last time and was also rude then. Someone else should work the front desk, if your an owner, just stay away and get workers, your vibe is harsh
