The Ridge Golf Club

Waterford, Pennsylvania, USANorthwest Pennsylvania

The Ridge Golf Club presents a straightforward, well-maintained 18-hole course known for its approachable layout and steady pace of play. Situated in Waterford, PA, it appeals to golfers seeking a balance of challenge and accessibility amid peaceful, natural surroundings.

Course Overview

The Ridge Golf Club in Waterford, Pennsylvania, offers an approachable yet thoughtfully designed 18-hole layout that challenges players while remaining welcoming to all skill levels. This public facility combines the rolling qualities of a traditional parkland course with open fairways and modest elevation changes that encourage a steady rhythm of play without overwhelming less experienced golfers. The course’sconditioning has improved notably under new ownership, with fairways displaying consistent lies and greens rolling true, providing a satisfying putting experience throughout the round.

Landscape elements are straightforward but effective. The fairways are wide enough to reward controlled tee shots while strategic placement of natural rough and occasional water features adds a layer of decision-making without feeling punitive. Bunkers are limited in number and primarily positioned to shape approach shots, rather than act as severe hazards. The absence of sand traps might catch some traditionalists by surprise but contributes to a quicker pace of play and a less demanding mental game.

Players will find The Ridge to be particularly inviting for those seeking a solid test of golf that doesn’t require an extensive arsenal of shots. Greens exhibit subtle breaks that encourage reading skills but are never overwhelmingly fast, allowing steady improvement for mid to higher handicappers without sacrificing interest for lower handicaps. The course’s overall quiet setting, framed by mature trees and open fields, fosters concentration and an enjoyable rhythm.

Amenities include a well-stocked pro shop and recently updated golf carts equipped with USB chargers, enhancing comfort and convenience during play. The club welcomes players through convenient online tee-time booking, a plus for visitors and locals alike. While the cart paths remain natural dirt, walking is doable; however, players should prepare for softer ground conditions after heavy rain—common in the region.

The Ridge’s combination of solid course conditions, straightforward design, and friendly staff makes it a reliable choice for casual rounds and practice sessions. Improvements underway, like adding a short game area, suggest ongoing investment in the player experience. Whether returning for the familiar challenge or trying it for the first time, The Ridge offers a blend of ease and engagement in the heart of Erie County.

Course Highlights

The Ridge features a parkland-style layout with open fairways and limited bunkers, focusing on shot placement over forced carries. Its greens are smooth and receptive, rewarding thoughtful approach shots. Recent upgrades in carts and pro shop amenities enhance the overall player experience. The course’s natural terrain offers subtle elevation changes and a relaxed atmosphere that suits golfers of all levels.

I had a great playing this course today. Joe make me feel like a was local. The course was wet due to heavy rains the night before (all courses in the area were wet) and for the most part it did change the hitting conditions. The Pro Shop was nice with a good selections of clothes and equipment. The greens were great shape, with very good fairways (I didn't lose many balls, other then poor play on my part). The carts were clean and in good shape (USB charger in cart). Staff and other players were very friendly. I understand this place has new ownership and they are planning to add a short game area and a hitting net to warm up in the next year. Currently no sand traps (no complaints from me). FYI if your using a GPS golf watch, the course currently comes up under Crab Apple Ridge Golf Course and not The Ridge Golf Course (as of 08/14/2021), I'm assuming this will change next year as they update the design. I love the online tee time option, as I booked after business hours once I got in town. I wish they had coffee available this morning (Saturday). I will be back again the next time I'm in the area. Thanks!

The new owners are clearly putting in the work to get the course into perfect condition. The tee boxes were in great shape (hard to find at nearby courses) and the online booking system is a game changer. The greens are coming in nicely after they were sanded a couple weeks ago. Pleasant course to walk with lots of different challenges. Excited to come back.

My group drove over from Jamestown and was WELL worth the trip...The staff was extremely friendly and helpful...The course was in great shape...Only issue would be, really small, but the cart paths are all dirt and it was blowing everywhere from the other cart...The roughly hour drive was well worth our time...See you soon...

Course is total crap. Always flooded!! Cart paths (if you want to even call them that) are in complete shambles with rivers going through them. Unkept roughs. Awful tee boxes. Average at best fairways. Greens are about the only thing that are decent. Completely overpriced sloppy mess of a course. It's either $45 or $48 for 18! Save yourself money and drive a little further south to Venango Valley Inn. Mound grove or fox run are better options as well. Also, if you make a tee time for 1 person, that tee time is dependent on whether or not 3 strangers that you have never met show up. So you can show up early and be ready, only to have the older blonde hair woman tell you she won't let you out if 3 randoms don't show up to their tee time. Maybe put this information on your website when booking. I've given this course a dozen or so opportunities, and almost every time it has been an awful experience from the moment you check in. Never again will I waste money on this place.

Played The Ridge yesterday, July 3rd, and had a wonderful experience. The fairways were great and the greens were fast and true. Also, the new carts were great. The new owner is definitely putting the time and money into the course. The staff was exceptional and all said it was a great day.
