Rose City Golf Course in Portland offers an approachable yet thoughtfully designed 18-hole public layout with gentle rolling fairways and well-kept greens. Coupled with a welcoming clubhouse and the popular Rose City Grill, it suits golfers seeking a relaxed round with solid playability across all levels.

Course Overview

Situated in Portland's northeast corridor, Rose City Golf Course presents an 18-hole public layout that strikes a rare balance between accessibility and challenge. The course unfolds across gently rolling terrain, with fairways that encourage strategic shot-making rather than brute distance. Its parkland character is marked by mature trees and well-defined bunkers that line the greens, shaping an inviting landscape free from unnecessary complexity.

Designed with players of all skill levels in mind, Rose City offers a straightforward routing that allows beginners to find their rhythm while still posing enough intrigue for more experienced golfers. The elevation changes are subtle but meaningful, adding texture to holes without overwhelming the average player. Well-maintained greens reward precision, though they tend to run a bit slower, making approach shots and putting a test of touch as the day progresses.

The course’s openness is complemented by a friendly, relaxed atmosphere that makes each round feel approachable. Walking is highly recommended, with smooth cart paths available to assist those who prefer it. A handful of mild hills provide a slight workout but do not detract from an easy pace of play. This setting suits those who want solid practice on shot selection and course management rather than a punishing battle.

Off the course, the clubhouse offers a notable highlight in the Rose City Grill, which provides a remade menu featuring hearty breakfasts and burgers acclaimed by regulars. This spot is an inviting place to regroup after a round or to settle in for a casual meal with views of the course.

Visitors will find the course well kept throughout the year, though typical Pacific Northwest weather should be considered when planning a trip. The management and staff maintain a welcoming environment, providing professionalism that complements the unpretentious spirit of the club. Whether you are looking for an affordable Portland round or a relaxed setting to sharpen your fundamentals, Rose City Golf Course remains a go-to option for locals and visitors alike.

I don’t understand some of the complaints about staff/marshall. Just played 18 today and everyone single person we dealt with was fantastic! Course pace was fine, the greens were pretty bumpy, maybe needed rolled. But all in all it was in great shape! It had been years since I played Rose City and it was not disappointing at all. We’ll be back

The Rose City Grill is a hidden gem inside the clubhouse. Best burgers in the neighborhood. Newly remodeled. Great breakfast joint! Solid diner menu with plenty of beers on tap. Hidden gem for sure. Check it out.

My first 18 hole round was here in the late 80's. The course is still a gem at an affordable price. Greens are a tad slow but in good shape for a mini.

The club house staff is very professional and nice. For the most part experience playing the golf course is amazing. I have had two experiences that doesn't change my positive experiences with them, but they should be noted. One year ago I was on first T and the marshal was so involved on ensuring timely group starts that he literally was standing in the first T box area as I was hitting, "educating us " on course etiquette..move forward to today's round. The last few holes on the back nine a groundskeeper was pulling one of those machines that blow air to clear fairways literally besides me the entire time while trying to finish my round. Hopefully the group that teaches golf course etiquette will do the same. Its only two events that it occurred. Beautiful golf course, very nice club house folk. And I do recommend this course. It's well maintained, just needs a little dialing in on staff editquite.

Really enjoyed playing here. Straightforward and no frills course layout made it easy to play as a high handicapper. Very walkable with a few hilly areas.
