Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club

North Plains, Oregon, USANorthwest Oregon

Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club presents a compelling mix of challenge and approachability across its standout public Ghost Creek course. Located near Portland, this course features rolling parkland terrain, strategic bunkering, and well-kept greens, delivering a rewarding experience to golfers of varying skill levels.

Course Overview

Located just 20 minutes northwest of Portland, Oregon, Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club offers an exceptional golf experience balanced between championship challenge and accessible play. Hosting two courses, the public Ghost Creek and the private Witch Hollow, Pumpkin Ridge has earned its reputation within the Pacific Northwest as a destination for players seeking variety and quality. The public Ghost Creek course stretches 7,000 yards from the back tees with a par of 72, presenting a thoughtful blend of parkland and gentle rolling terrain framed by native Oregon pines and open fairways. It welcomes all levels but rewards strategic play—its wide landing areas offer forgiveness, while well-placed bunkers guard the scoring zones and subtle green complexes test putting touch.

Ghost Creek’s layout emphasizes playability without sacrificing interest. The course carries a rhythm that suits both novices wanting an enjoyable round and experienced golfers looking to sharpen course management skills. Steady elevation changes and occasional water hazards provide tactical elements that require focus but avoid overwhelming the player. Throughout, the sound of birds and the rustle of trees merge into the natural backdrop, creating a calm atmosphere that contrasts Portland’s urban buzz.

Pumpkin Ridge’s public experience is supported by a well-appointed clubhouse, where golfers can gather post-round to reflect on their shots and enjoy local cuisine. Facilities include a pro shop with knowledgeable staff and practice areas sufficient for warm-ups and skill refinement. Golf carts are available and recommended, given the course’s length and occasional elevation shifts, even though the layout allows for walking in good weather.

Regular maintenance efforts keep fairways and greens in solid condition, though reviews note occasional variability, particularly during peak seasons. Planning early tee times or weekday rounds can enhance pace and course conditions. This course remains an accessible yet stimulating choice for travelers or locals eager to experience one of Oregon’s key public golf venues.

Course Highlights

Pumpkin Ridge impresses with its combination of parkland styling and Pacific Northwest flora, blending native pines with open stretches. Ghost Creek's signature traits include wide fairways guarded by deep bunkers and finely contoured greens that reward precision putting. The course’s layered landscape and natural water features inject calm and challenge without overwhelming the player. The pairing of public and private courses on site offers diverse options for different rounds and skill levels.

Great place to play golf with friendly staff and excellent course design. My only criticism is the greens were a bit rough around the edges for the price.

Wow. Hard to believe the last time I was here it was 1997. Immediately following the epic battle when Tiger won his 6th straight U.S. Amateur tournament (three Junior, then three unrestricted). I believe he is the all-time major championship winner with 21 not Jack - with all respect to Jack. This is hallowed ground for golf nuts. The courses are amazing. One private. One public. Call a friend who can get you out on Witch Hollow. This place is a golfer's paradise. It’s a golf club not a country club if you’re following me… Anyone visiting the Portland area it’s a must play - and when you’re done take the long track down to Bandon after. Another gem in the state of Oregon. Both Pumkin tracks have received "best of" awards for public and private courses and only 20 minutes from downtown Portland.

4 star review due to price. Course was in decent condition, fairways were nice and greens were well kept. Definitely some standing water in areas. There was no Marshall and no pace of play. Also for $146 with cart, I expect a premium experience. Feels like they just take your money and whatever goes. Front 9 is way more challenging than back.

For the premium price tag the public deserves better groundskeeping practices. Poa-spotted greens, un-raked bunkers on a weekend and barely a yardage to be found. What are we paying for? History? Much better value at The Reserve or Langdon.

Overpriced. I've never paid two hundred for a round and seen literally zero cart service in the middle of summer on a noon round.

Absolutely beautiful and well maintained golf course. And this is the public side, so you just know the private course has to be amazing. The course is challenging, but open enough to be forgiving. Cart girl made a fantastic Transfusion. Loved the experience.

What a fun place to play a round! Challenging course with quick greens and beautiful aesthetics. A few minor hiccups. Playing a shotgun scramble and our cart died about 500 yards from the clubhouse and 500 yards from our hole. It took the team about 20 minutes to bring a replacement which created confusion. Plus, the website indicates rental clubs are $50 but was charged $75. Pretty easy website fix. Other than those two minor issues it was wonderful.
