Whitefish Lake Golf Club

Whitefish, Montana, USANorthwest Montana

Whitefish Lake Golf Club features two well-crafted 18-hole courses set against Montana’s rugged mountain scenery. The North Course challenges precision with tight, tree-lined fairways, while the South Course offers a more open layout with strategic bunkering. Both courses blend enjoyable playability with scenic vistas, appealing to a wide range of golfers.

Course Overview

Whitefish Lake Golf Club, located in the scenic town of Whitefish, Montana, offers a compelling municipal golfing experience across two distinct 18-hole layouts: the North and South Courses. Both courses weave through a landscape marked by dense stands of evergreens, mature trees, and subtle elevation changes that demand thoughtful shot placement. The North Course favors strategic precision, with narrower fairways bordered by towering pines and occasional blind shots that challenge golfers to rely on course knowledge and controlled ball striking. Its tighter hitting corridors suit players who appreciate accuracy over brute length. The South Course contrasts with a more open, yet still demanding, parkland style. Here, expansive bunkers and undulating greens invite a slightly bolder game while rewarding crisp approach shots and nimble short game skills.

Set against Montana’s iconic mountain backdrop, the surrounding scenery heightens the experience without overwhelming playability. Both courses present firm, well-maintained playing surfaces, with greens that hold true and roll smoothly, emphasizing shot execution and a steady putting touch. The layout provides a fair test for a wide range of skill levels, making it approachable for intermediate players yet still engaging enough for lower handicaps seeking to sharpen competitive edges.

Whitefish Lake Golf Club extends beyond golf with amenities including a well-stocked pro shop, friendly staff, and inviting dining options such as the popular cabana bar and clubhouse restaurant. These spaces offer tasteful respite after a round, where players can enjoy local craft beers or hearty meals while overlooking the course. The club’s commitment to quality upkeep and customer service has earned it respect among locals and visitors alike.

Gentle elevation shifts combined with tree-lined fairways create a dynamic rhythm across both courses. The interplay of light and shadow through the forested edges and occasional mountain breezes provides immersive sensory layers, ensuring that every round feels connected to Whitefish’s natural surroundings. For those planning a visit, comfortable walking shoes are recommended as both courses accommodate walking well, allowing players to fully absorb the environment and pacing of the game.

One of the better courses I've played. And, for the price it's well worth it! Great Pro Shop staff. I wish we had time to stick around for food and drinks because the atmosphere at the clubhouse and outdoor bar looked amazing! Looking forward to playing it again when we have more time.

Fourth golf course in three days. We played the North course. It was nice we had a buddy of.mime who is a member, so we were able to get all feedback about each hole. Well maintained course. Lots of trees and tighter fairways made it more challenging than expected. Good pro shop and outstanding snack/bar area outside.

Our favorite dining experience in Whitefish! Reservations recommended. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, the food was amazing, and the ambiance was perfection. I recommend the ribeye, salmon, and king crab legs. Every dish was perfectly prepared and very flavorful. Bravo chef! Our table was near the gigantic wood burning fireplace and looked out the windows at the beautiful snow covered grounds. You’re doing it right Whitefish Lake Golf Club! We’ll be back! ***chef’s kiss***

Had the opportunity to play the South Course. What a joy to play! Course is in incredible shape. Greens are firm and fast. Bunkers played like velvet traps. Shout-out to the Greens keepers for keeping the course in such great shape. Hard to believe that it is a Municipal course as it's kept in such great condition. Food options and tap beers are terrific at the cabana bar. Overall, a great outing.

Was at the course late May. Great condition. No trouble getting a tee time but was there before busy season. Played North course 2 days. Kind of tight, some blind shots but very fair. Very scenic and staff is very helpful. So are the members.
