Northern Pines - North Kalispell Golf Club

Kalispell, Montana, USANorthwest Montana

Northern Pines in Kalispell delivers an approachable 18-hole public course that threads through rolling terrain and riverfront landscapes. Its blend of strategic challenges and inviting fairways makes it ideal for golfers of all levels seeking mountain views and well-kept conditions in northwest Montana.

Course Overview

Northern Pines, located just off US-93 in Kalispell, Montana, offers an 18-hole public golf experience that echoes the rugged beauty and serene landscapes of the northern Rockies. This course is woven into a natural setting where the front nine unfolds across gently rolling terrain, giving way to a back nine that edges along the Stillwater River. The shifting terrain and winding waterways create a dynamic playing field challenging golfers to read approaches carefully, while open sightlines reveal striking mountain vistas that shift with the sun’s position.

Designed for golfers of varied skill levels, Northern Pines balances playability with strategic elements. The course’s length and layout reward thoughtful shot selection, but wide fairways and approachable greens allow amateur players to enjoy steady progress through the round. Bunkers are placed thoughtfully to challenge tee shots and approaches without blocking all options, while water hazards demand respect but rarely penalize too harshly. Wind patterns here most often role in subtly, testing timing rather than overpowering players.

The clubhouse provides a welcoming hub with attentive staff who offer directions and helpful insights into course conditions. Rental clubs are available, making it easy for visitors who travel light or miss packing a full bag. While carts can be rented, many players choose to walk, embracing the crisp Montana air and the course’s manageable elevation changes. A range and practice areas allow warm-ups or sharpening short games before heading out.

Northern Pines stands out for its accessibility combined with quality conditioning, making it a favored destination for local golfers and visitors alike. The river-side back nine, in particular, offers memorable shots framed by natural woodland and rushing water. Whether coming for a casual round or seeking a solid golf workout surrounded by mountain grandeur, Northern Pines delivers a well-rounded experience that encourages return visits.

Planning a trip here means considering seasonal weather fluctuations typical of Montana, with late spring through early fall presenting ideal conditions. Footwear suited for uneven ground and layered clothing for shifting temperatures ensures comfort. Northern Pines invites players to engage with a course that feels connected to the landscape and demands attention without intimidation.

Course Highlights

The course’s back nine runs alongside the Stillwater River, offering scenic water views and strategic challenges. The front nine’s rolling hills provide open fairways framed by native grasses and pine groves. Thoughtfully placed bunkers protect key landing zones without overly penalizing less experienced golfers. A practice range and rental club availability support visitors aiming to prepare before play.

I went to Northern Pines on Wednesday May 21st and the course was in excellent condition already. Experience a few weather issues as far as Rain and small hail storms, but other than that I had a very enjoyable round of golf. Clubhouse staff were very welcoming and helpful in providing directions to Restaurant, range and first tee.

Bachelor party, 15 guys hit the full 18 and had complete blast! Beautiful course, well maintained, with spectacular views of the mountains and the back nine plays along the river.

Playing it now. Not a bad course, but definitely over priced. Also 1 yardage marker per hole and it's at the 150....and it's blue. Golfed so many courses all over, blue is ALWAYS 200. It's a 1 time thing to mark the course appropriately. Do your job. Completely unacceptable.

Course is in great shape - true, quick greens, and the tee boxes are excellent. Very walkable, long walk between 16-17 is toughest climb. Nice layout - fun place to play.

My girlfriends and I work in the golf industry in Nevada and we were on a golf trip. This course was by far our favorite. Staff and management were accommodating and friendly. The course was gorgeous. This is a must if you want to golf in this area of Montana. ❤️
