St. Joseph Bay Country Club offers a refreshing 18-hole coastal golf experience in Port St. Joe, Florida. With improved greens, generous fairways, and a relaxed atmosphere, it caters to a broad range of golfers seeking approachable play alongside scenic bay views.

Course Overview

St. Joseph Bay Country Club offers an inviting 18-hole golf experience set along the serene coastal landscape of Port St. Joe, Florida. This public course stretches across gently rolling terrain framed by natural scrub and water features, providing a spacious, open layout that welcomes players of all skill levels. Its design capitalizes on the gentle coastal breezes and sunlit vistas, creating a golf outing defined as much by its environment as by the game itself.

The course plays to a moderate length, balancing strategic shot-making with approachable routing. Fairways are wide and forgiving, allowing higher handicappers to find their rhythm, while subtle undulations and well-placed bunkers demand precise approach shots for more advanced players seeking a challenge. The greens have seen notable improvements in recent years, now rolling smoother and truer, enhancing the putting experience without overwhelming unfamiliar visitors.

Set near the bay, the course benefits from coastal winds that affect club selection and shot trajectory, adding a dynamic element that encourages adaptation and thoughtful play. Water hazards, though not constant, appear at pivotal moments, prompting strategic decisions that keep every round engaging. The natural surroundings evoke a calming atmosphere, inviting players to slow their pace and appreciate subtle changes in elevation and vegetation.

Visitors will find that St. Joseph Bay Country Club combines golf with refreshing amenities. Recent clubhouse renovations have introduced a modern yet relaxed coastal charm where players can unwind, enjoy casual dining, or prepare for their next round. The staff’s genuine hospitality complements the course’s laid-back character, making it a comfortable retreat for locals and travelers alike.

For golfers planning a visit, the course encourages walking but also offers carts by request, making it adaptable to varied preferences and physical comfort. With tee times readily available and clear guidelines for play, St. Joseph Bay presents an accessible, well-maintained option for those seeking a quality round on Florida’s forgotten Gulf coast. It’s a course revitalizing itself thoughtfully while celebrating what makes golf by the sea quietly special.

Course Highlights

The course features generous fairways bordered by coastal scrub and wetlands, wind-influenced shot-making, and smooth recently renovated greens. Notable holes include a mid-length par 4 where a narrow approach over a bayou tests accuracy, and a finishing par 5 that offers risk-reward opportunities along a water-lined fairway. The updated clubhouse blends modern amenities with coastal charm, providing a welcoming hub after play.

It was a good course for our purposes. Grateful we had the opportunity to get out and play.

We played here on vacation from Mexico beach. We didn’t know the time zone changed back to eastern, so we arrived minutes before the tee time. Joanne at the desk was very understanding and hospitable. We played all 18, the course is wide open with a great layout. The greens are in great condition considering the climate. We will definitely come back here and play again!!

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Easily one of the worst golf experiences I’ve had. First off, the staff is absolutely terrible—rude, unhelpful, and clearly playing favorites. We were told we couldn’t play as a group of six, yet we saw multiple groups of women playing with five or more people, no issue. When we brought it up, they gave us an excuse that “they were members so they can do that.” It was clear they were just picking and choosing who to enforce rules against. The course itself? A complete joke. The tee boxes were chewed up, uneven, and looked like they hadn’t been maintained in months. The greens were just as bad—patchy, bumpy, and slower than anything I’ve ever played on. If you’re looking for decent playing conditions, don’t waste your time here. The pictures attached is what basically every tee box and green look like. To make matters worse, the place gives off a clear anti-military vibe—if you’ve served, don’t expect any respect or appreciation here. As for the so-called “pro,” he’s as soft as they come—completely avoids face-to-face interaction and has no interest in actual customer service. When an issue came up, a staff member came to speak with us, but instead of addressing it himself, he just stood at a distance, clearly visible, yet never had the nerve to come over and handle it directly. We even asked to speak with him. Save your money and play somewhere that actually respects its players and maintains its course.

They take good care of their field, and try to maintain the greens well. Customer service was pretty good, and the staff were all friendly. Their food was pretty good, the chorizo burger was delicious. Gave me a diet Dr pepper, instead of a normal one, but I didn't mind so much. Great price on 18 holes, and had some great distances on the holes. Overall, was a pleasant experience.

A Hidden Gem with Big Improvements! I recently visited St. Joseph’s Bay Golf Club for the first time in a while, and I’m really impressed with the recent upgrades. The greens have improved tremendously—they’re rolling smooth, true, and in much better shape than in years past. You can tell the grounds crew has put in a lot of effort. The recent clubhouse renovations are a major highlight. It’s got a fresh, modern feel while still keeping that classic coastal charm. Whether you’re grabbing a bite or just relaxing after a round, the space is clean, comfortable, and welcoming. Overall, the course looks fantastic. The landscaping is clean, and the entire facility feels rejuvenated. You can tell there’s been a serious commitment to bringing this club up to a higher standard, and it shows. I can’t wait to see what is planned for the future. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area—great golf, friendly staff, and a much-improved experience all around!

I had a great time playing golf today! The course is much, much better than the last time I played. It has a ways to go still but I think with some more work it can be one of the best hidden gems for golf in north Florida. I can’t wait to go back!
