Indian Bayou Golf & Country Club

Destin, Florida, USANorthwest Florida

Indian Bayou Golf & Country Club blends strategic design with coastal charm along Northwest Florida's shoreline. This public 18-hole course offers firm, fast greens, water hazards that demand accuracy, and a comfortable clubhouse atmosphere ideal for both visitors and locals.

Course Overview

Indian Bayou Golf & Country Club offers a compelling destination for golfers visiting the Destin area, combining a well-crafted 18-hole layout with meticulously maintained conditions. This public resort course weaves through lush southern terrain where the subtropical climate encourages vibrant fairways and fast, true greens. Its design balances challenge and approachability, making it inviting for players across a range of skill levels. From the opening tee, the course engages with strategic bunkering and water hazards placed to test both accuracy and course management. Although the greens tend to be on the smaller side, their smooth rolls reward precision and thoughtful putting.

The surrounding landscape frames each hole with mature trees, gentle elevation changes, and water features that contribute both aesthetic appeal and tactical demands. The course’s layout emphasizes a rhythm that encourages players to find a steady tempo, facing wind conditions typical of the Gulf Coast region that subtly influence shot selection and club choice. While not a traditional links or mountain course, Indian Bayou delivers a southern parkland vibe infused with coastal breezes and natural water traps.

Visitors will find the clubhouse a down-to-earth facility, highlighted by a lounge that recalls a relaxed 1980s Florida atmosphere. The lounge serves as both a gathering spot and a place to enjoy affordable, satisfying meals, making it a fitting conclusion to a round. Practice facilities nearby offer ample space to warm up or hone short game skills before heading out.

Indian Bayou is well suited for resort guests and locals who appreciate a course kept in excellent condition without the pretension of high-end country clubs. Its current pricing and availability draw a mix of families, retirees, and serious golfers looking to play solid golf in a casual setting. Planning a visit includes considering morning tee times to avoid afternoon coastal breezes at their peak and a cheerful club staff ready to assist with course details and play recommendations.

This course’s presence in the Destin golf scene offers a practical yet refreshing golf experience, anchored by thoughtful design, consistent maintenance, and a welcoming atmosphere.

Course Highlights

Indian Bayou features well-placed water hazards and strategic bunkering that challenge players’ shot selection. The course’s speedy, smaller greens require careful putting, while the coastal winds add a subtle layer of complexity. The clubhouse lounge offers an inviting, retro Florida vibe pairing well with the course’s relaxed ambiance.

Beautiful course. Great layout. Greens are a little on the small side, but they roll fast and true. I would play again when in the area.

I'm a fan! The course is a great place to play when you are down near Destin/San Destin. It used to be a secret gem but clearly with the prices where they are today, more people have found out about it. But I must say the course is always in great shape, greens are fast and the fairways look amazing.

Awesome time. Got a round in 3 and a half hours on Fathers day. Nice course. Fairways like carpet.

Good practice facilities and the greens were decent for this time of year. The layout of the course is enjoyable and the staff are friendly. I did find the price a bit steep, and the morning menu lacks options. For the price it would be nice to get a fresh breakfast burrito or something similar and not a frozen Jimmy Dean breakfast biscuit.

We had an 8am tee time this morning for our last day in beautiful Destin. We played Emerald Bay, Regatta Bay, and Gator Lakes this week and Indian Bayou was in the best shape with Regatta Bay a close second, Emerald Bay a close third and Gator Lakes trailing in last place --- it is on the Air Force Base and front nine was pretty rough (back nine was better) and we saw three Gators! Indian Bayou's tee boxes, fairways, and greens were all perfect. The staff were all very nice and provided great customer service! In my opinion the carts need upgraded - but that is minor for us. We ate lunch in the lounge afterwards and we really enjoyed it - it had a comfy 1980's Ft Lauderdale vibe right down to the music! My man had the hamburger steak and fries and I had the turkey club sandwich - both really good and least expensive meal we have had this whole week. If you are looking for a really nice spot to enjoy a beautiful course and some good food afterwards, this place was a very good value for the money!
