Rollingstone Ranch Golf Course

Steamboat Springs, Colorado, USANorthwest Colorado

Rollingstone Ranch Golf Course provides an 18-hole mountain-style challenge in Steamboat Springs. Elevated fairways, river crossings, and firm greens create a testing layout that demands precision and strategic play amid striking alpine scenery.

Course Overview

Rollingstone Ranch Golf Course offers a distinctive 18-hole challenge set against the striking backdrop of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. This public, mountain-style course runs through varied terrain where elevated fairways meet pockets of rugged, natural rough, demanding precision and strategic thought on every shot. The course's layout incorporates the Yampa River multiple times, lending both scenic appeal and tactical risk-reward moments as water hazards come into play alongside elevated greens and tree-lined corridors.

From the first tee, golfers confront a track designed for players seeking an engaging test that balances beauty with difficulty. Tall grasses and thick rough carve out narrow lanes, ensuring errant shots rarely find easy reprieve. The greens are known for their firm and fast surfaces, requiring careful reading and touch to navigate successfully. While these conditions may challenge beginners, the course rewards players who hone in on shot placement and course management.

The surrounding landscape is a defining aspect of the experience here. Views of the nearby mountains frame the fairways, particularly striking during the back nine when the course crosses the Yampa River several times. Wildlife presence, including occasional sightings of moose, adds a rare element of wilderness to the round that few mountain courses offer.

Amenities at Rollingstone Ranch are limited but functional, with a modest practice area and a clubhouse that serves players without much fanfare. Cart availability and walking policies accommodate varied preferences; however, the pace of play tends to be on the slower side, a factor worth considering when planning a visit. Some golfers note that course conditions fluctuate, with certain holes showing wear and others maintaining solid turf quality, making recent course conditions a key consideration.

Overall, Rollingstone Ranch appeals to golfers who appreciate terrain-inflected golf coupled with rewarding shot-making challenges. Its elevated positioning and natural features create an experience that requires focus and adaptability from tee to green. Visitors seeking a mountain golf adventure in the Steamboat area will find this course offers an authentic, if sometimes demanding, test within a dramatic alpine setting.

Course Highlights

Notable for multiple Yampa River crossings that influence hole strategy, elevated greens demanding precision approach shots, and thick natural rough that punishes errant drives. Another disappointing troon experience this year. First time playing Rollingstone Ranch GC and well, I had some high hopes. It was quite disappointing, most of the fairways had some pretty bad damage, see pictures. The rough was well, rough, looked worse than any city course I’ve played this year, with dirt and crab grass all over. The greens were actually pretty decent. The layout is fantastic with some great challenging tree lined, elevated holes. The bunkers were inconsistent, most of which had a thin cover of sand over top of what felt like concrete underneath. The practice range is a joke with no markers and it just tapers off, not even sure that you can use a driver on it, is that a practice green of for chipping? Who knows, it’s not labeled. The staff was friendly, however, the facilities were lacking, poor clubhouse layout. No where to dispose of rubbish throughout the course, so it just piles up in the cart. The second worse maintained course I’ve played this year after funny enough Ridge at Castle Pines North which is also a Troon course, what are these yahoos doing?! Worth closer to $50 not the going rate of $150 until they get the course in substantially better shape. If you’re coming up to steamboat, skip this place and go to Haymaker instead, heard it’s in much better shape for the same money.

This course was hard but it was fun and you can see a moose on this course too. You will lose a lot of balls if you're not precise because the grass there is very tall and it just is gone after that

I tell you what the staff at Rollingstone Ranch are superb! I booked a tee time through GolfNow went through the entire payment, then the app told me the time wasn’t available anymore. I went to the pro shop and explained what happened. They said they weren’t sure what happened with the app as they still had the time available, and would match the deal I would have gotten through the app! Phenomenal staff thank you everyone! Had a great time at the course and experienced some things you don’t get everywhere.

This was the most expensive course I’ve ever played at 235$ a person and it was extremely uneventful, lacking service and not in “perfect condition.” The front desk guy didn’t even give me a total when he rang me up and took my card. But I knew it was going to be pricey. We had to carry our clubs to the cart. The carts are extremely slow and loud. We got rained on a few times and never offered a towel or anything. The cart would warn us for not repairing our divots but it also had no sand in it to repair them in the first place. No sand next to tee markers. Slow, overbooked play.. We left after 16 holes due to rain and no one in the front offered to help us unload/clean and move our stuff into the car. I wouldn’t recommend going here. You’re better off playing twice at evergreen or going to haymaker. Waste of money. I’ve seen courses with better service and conditions that cost half of what they are asking for.

This was one of the more beautiful courses I've golfed. It's right along the mountains and the back nine crosses the Yampa River a few times. The greens were hard to read but probably is easier after a few rounds. If I'm back in Steamboat Springs, I'll definitely go back!

Amazing course. Spectacular views and the friendliest staff the course was plenty challenging but easy enough to get around for an average golfer. Will definitely be returning.
