Course Overview
Quail Run Golf Course in Santa Fe, New Mexico offers a distinctive nine-hole layout that balances approachability with challenge amid an elevated desert backdrop. Though compact, this course delivers a rewarding experience for golfers of varying skill levels, especially those seeking a brisk round without sacrificing strategic variety. The course features meticulously maintained tee boxes, fairways, and greens that stand out for their condition, a detail frequently noted by visiting players. Its manageable length encourages a focus on precision, with narrow fairways demanding careful shot placement and greens that test putting touch.
The setting is typical of Santa Fe’s high desert landscape, where open skies meet arid terrain lightly brushed with natural grasses and subtle elevation changes. While not sprawling in scale, Quail Run’s routing plays cleverly through this environment, with holes laid out to maximize the challenging wind conditions that occasionally sweep through. This wind acts as an ever-present opponent, influencing club selection and shot shape, adding an unpredictable element to the round.
Quail Run operates as a private course, meaning access is limited to members and their guests; those planning a visit should confirm invitations or membership details in advance. The course promotes walking, encouraging players to engage directly with the land and its contours. Golfers benefit from sturdy footwear due to firm ground surfaces typical of the dry season. Amenities include a clubhouse offering refreshments and a pro shop catering to essential gear and advice.
While Quail Run is not a championship-length track, its compact footprint does not diminish its personality. The course delivers a nimble test of accuracy and short-game control where strategic thinking outweighs brute force. It suits golfers looking for an intimate setting away from larger resort-style venues, with an emphasis on steady shot-making and reading conditions. For those exploring Santa Fe’s golf options, Quail Run offers a genuine, no-frills opportunity to experience the region’s blend of rugged terrain and desert golf traditions.

This course features tight fairways demanding precision and a wind factor that affects play substantially. Me and my brother are visiting Santa Fe from out of town. We googled public golf courses and this is the first location that pops up. When we arrived the security guard tipped his hat at us as we stopped. We assumed that meant to proceed. He then chased us down in his security vehicle and scolded us for not stopping.. we did stop and he acknowledged us.. if this is a private golf course the memebers are getting ripped off it looks like a public course and the staff is clearly not professional. My first suggestion would be to teach the young man at the front gate how to speak to people. He’s the first person you interact with coming into your facility and he was terrible.

This is a private course and community. But when you google public course this comes up. The security was extremely rude for no reason whatsoever. Looks like the dumpiest private course I’ve ever seen
