Carson City, Nevada, USANorthern Nevada

Toiyabe Golf Club delivers an 18-hole mountain foothill experience set against the striking scenery of Mt. Rose and Washoe Valley. With wide fairways, challenging water hazards, and fast rolling greens, it offers an engaging layout for players of all levels near Reno.

Course Overview

Set against the impressive backdrop of Mt. Rose and the expansive Washoe Valley, Toiyabe Golf Club offers an 18-hole challenge that blends natural beauty with thoughtful design. Situated just south of Reno in New Washoe City, Nevada, this public course provides a refreshing mountain foothill experience where wide fairways and rolling greens invite players of varying skill levels to test their game.

From the first tee, golfers are greeted by sweeping views that shift with the seasons—from snow-dusted peaks in winter to vibrant greens throughout summer. The course’s layout encourages strategic shot-making, with several holes demanding precise navigation around small creeks and natural hazard areas. These water features intersect a handful of fairways and guard select greens, creating risk-reward moments that keep players engaged while navigating the gently undulating terrain.

Toiyabe’s greens are known for their fast pace and subtle breaks, rewarding players who take the time to read the slopes carefully. The back nine steps up the challenge with tighter lies and a few softer fairways where moisture settles, requiring thoughtful club selection and shot shaping. Afternoon winds are a consistent factor here, testing tempo and forcing many players to adapt their approach as the round progresses.

Accessibility and playability make Toiyabe appealing to a diverse range of golfers. While advanced players will appreciate the strategic details embedded in the routing, newcomers will enjoy approachable tee options and fairway widths that encourage confidence off the tee. The presence of a straightforward mobile app assists first-timers with course navigation, an important consideration given the course’s looping and occasionally counterintuitive layout.

Beyond the course itself, the friendly staff and well-maintained practice facilities create a welcoming atmosphere. The clubhouse offers modern amenities ideal for post-round conversations or warming up before the first tee shot. For players near Reno seeking an engaging day on the links with dramatic mountain vistas and varied shot demands, Toiyabe Golf Club stands out as a rewarding destination to explore.

Course Highlights

Toiyabe’s routing offers demanding shots around natural creeks and seasonal wetlands, with greens known for their speed and subtle undulations. The course features panoramic mountain views throughout, blending wide, forgiving fairways with pockets requiring shot shaping. Its blend of scenic variety and strategic complexity has earned it a reputation as a must-play in the Reno area.

Beautiful course in a gated community, 20 minutes south of Reno. Excellent conditions, from tee to green. Some fairways had a links type feel. Greens were in awesome shape and rolling fast...also challenging, as there seemed to be slope and break in play on any putt farther than a tap-in. Sure there are some houses around, but not a lot and they fit in well with the views...its not like the fairways were lined with houses by any means. The guys in the pro shop were very nice and helpful. Toiyabi could be a little tricky to navigate for 1st timers, as it doubles-back a bit and there is no course layout on the scorecard. But there is an app to download and help navigate. Great course, I would play it again if I were in the area.

Fair course in good condition and true rolling greens. Pretty wide fairways and windy in the afternoon. Play it smart and you will do good here. The back 9 is a little more challenging and softer (mud) fairways.

Had a chance to play a practice round here before the actual tournament. The place is clean and well run. Course is in great shape with interesting holes, some forced carrys, and holes that require you to shape shots off the tee to get in the right position for the best approach angle. You will want to play a practice round first if not familiar with the routing as there are small creeks and hazzard areas cutting across a few fairways and in front of a couple of greens. Speaking of greens, they roll fast and true, but have tricky undulations to challenge your green reading ability. A definite "must play" if you are in the Carson City area.
