LochenHeath Golf Club

Williamsburg, Michigan, USANorthern Michigan

LochenHeath Golf Club in northern Michigan offers a demanding 18-hole, par-72 layout shaped by natural terrain and wind, with striking views of East Grand Traverse Bay. Combining championship-level challenge and exceptional course care, it delivers an engaging round for skilled golfers amid a serene wooded setting.

Course Overview

LochenHeath Golf Club presents an 18-hole challenge carved into the rugged, natural terrain of northern Michigan near East Grand Traverse Bay. This private course combines the demands of a championship layout with a landscape shaped by gentle elevation changes and dense hardwood forests. Golfers encounter a links-inspired routing that uses wind and natural undulations to test every club in the bag, making strategic shot placement essential. The course stretches over approximately 7,000 yards from the back tees, offering a par-72 setup that balances length with shot-making complexity.

Set against a backdrop of towering pines and shimmering water views, LochenHeath invites players to engage with a course that rewards precision and thoughtful course management. The conditioning is consistently high, with greens presenting notable slopes and subtle breaks that can challenge even the most experienced putters. Several holes play along tree-lined fairways while others open up to panoramic views of East Bay, creating an experience that feels both intimate and expansive.

While the layout is designed primarily for skilled golfers seeking a test, LochenHeath remains playable for lower and mid-handicap players who approach the course with patience and course strategy. The combination of elevation, wind patterns, and green complexity often requires a controlled, thoughtful approach rather than brute force.

Beyond the course itself, the clubhouse offers a cozy yet refined atmosphere paired with outstanding dining. The on-site restaurant receives consistent praise for its elevated menu, including standout dishes such as expertly prepared steaks and seasonal local ingredients. Service is a hallmark here; staff members are attentive without being intrusive, enhancing the experience with personalized care.

For those considering walking, the layout is walkable but involves some varied terrain and slopes. Comfortable golf shoes with good traction are recommended. Golf carts are available but walking is encouraged to fully appreciate the natural contours and landscape nuances.

LochenHeath Golf Club delivers a compelling blend of challenge and beauty wrapped in warm hospitality, creating a memorable golf experience worth seeking on Michigan’s northwest shore.

Very dynamic and perfectly maintained golf course - not a boring shot out there. What really made this 5 stars was the awesome, warm hospitality of Patrick in the pro shop, and Terry the head pro. We had just flown in and were pretty beat, so their pleasant demeanor and attentiveness to any need was welcomed. Not only that, but since the beer cart was done for the day, they personally delivered beer and water to our group on the course. We will absolutely return. Above and beyond service. You set the bar high! Thanks guys.

9/2020 - went for lunch on an early fall afternoon during the pandemic & ate outside. Good social distancing practices & great service. We both had Chef Eric's morel bisque, again (see a review from last year below), which continues to be awesome. Also had the heirloom tomato capresé salad - it too was fantastic! And believe it or not, the cup of coffee I had was memorable (very smooth & silky, & I prefer dark roast). The view overlooking the course & East Grand Traverse Bay was fantastic. Though expensive ($69 for 2 without any alcohol), for a special treat, it's worth it, which is why I changed my prior rating from last year from 4 to 5 stars. 7/2019 - Went for lunch on a Saturday with a large group. Was promptly seated & generally had good service. Great view. Everyone loved their entreés, especially Chef Eric's signature morel bisque. Water glasses were always filled. The only glitch was that our server was the only one bringing out our meals, so 5 trips ...

Had dinner at Lochenheath...and it was superb. The Delmonico steak was incredible, tender, juicy, seasoned perfectly served with a special potato, and carrots that were roasted and honey glazed...hats off to the staff and the chef, this was better than most of the very high end steakhouses that we visit. A real treat for sure.

Play it... From the tips!!! Great views and a tough; very tough challenge...great staff, small clubhouse but no waisted space, plenty to choose from with the LochenHeath logo... The restaurant is a solid 5 star, the food is some of the best I've ever had at a golf course... The outside patio views also are pretty great over looking the east traverse bay... This place is a little gem... Tons of slope on the greens so if the superintendent is in a bad mood it'll be a very very difficult day on the course.
