Elmbrook Golf Course

Traverse City, Michigan, USANorthern Michigan

Elmbrook Golf Course in Traverse City offers an approachable 18-hole public layout that balances accessible play with subtle challenges. Featuring elevated greens and varied terrain, it’s a solid choice for golfers seeking quality northern Michigan golf without the up-north price.

Course Overview

Elmbrook Golf Course in Traverse City, Michigan, offers an accessible and engaging 18-hole layout that appeals to golfers seeking both challenge and enjoyment without the premium price tag typically associated with up-north courses. This public course stretches over a solid medium-length yardage, designed to reward accuracy and strategic shot-making across fairways that often demand attention to stance and lie. Players consistently encounter undulating terrain with subtle elevation changes, notably with elevated greens that require careful approach shots and touchy putting.

The course weaves through a mix of open fairways and natural landscape patches, lending a visual invitation without overwhelming complexity. While a few holes provide intermittent scenic views distinct to northern Michigan’s woodlands and countryside, the design places emphasis on playability for a wide range of skill levels. Those moving up from the white tees will find a noticeable difference stepping back another set, making the course more suitable for mid to low handicaps seeking a sturdier challenge.

Elmbrook’s greens are generally receptive, requiring focus on speed and line, and fairways often test balance and footing due to sloping lies and occasional uneven turf conditions. For players who appreciate a practical golf experience without sacrificing quality, this course delivers good value with a staff committed to friendly and helpful service.

Amenities extend to a welcoming clubhouse and a relaxed environment where both regulars and newcomers feel welcomed. Walking the course is encouraged, with terrain that rewards stable footwear and moderate stamina. Whether visiting for casual rounds or group outings, Elmbrook balances a straightforward design with nuanced challenges.

Golfers looking to experience northern Michigan golf without venturing into more remote or costly resorts will find Elmbrook Golf Course an inviting and honest test. Expect firm play conditions in warmer months, and plan to book tee times in advance during peak season to secure preferred slots. This course thrives on approachable golf, clear-eyed strategy, and a refreshing regional character.

We had an outing here before the Thursday our wedding, and they were an absolute joy to work with. Jaime and her team were so nice, accommodating, and welcoming to the players and the people who just came to the course to say hi before the round. My sister and brother-in-law don’t golf, but they allowed them to sit out on a par 3 and watch all the groups! We were so appreciative that they included everyone. It was such a fun day! We will definitely return. The course is beautiful and well-kept, too!

Absolutely the worst golf course I’ve ever had the misfortune of visiting. The fairways were so poorly maintained that they resembled a hayfield more than a golf course. I lost count of the number of random holes and patches of dirt that nearly broke my clubs. The greens? More like browns. They were so bumpy and uneven that putting felt like rolling a ball across a gravel road. It was impossible to get a clean shot! To make matters worse, the staff was rude and unhelpful. When I asked for directions to the back nine, they seemed annoyed I was even asking. The rental carts were practically falling apart, sputtering and screeching like they hadn’t been serviced in years. And don’t even get me started on the absurd pricing. Charging premium rates for what essentially feels like playing in someone’s backyard? It’s a joke. Avoid this place at all costs. There are better options anywhere else!”

The cart fee doubles the cost of a round, they have a really limited range, the price is not even close to worth what you get, look elsewhere if you want to enjoy your round

Fairly easy course with fast greens! The staff is amazing and so are the grounds keepers

Loved this course, greens were fast and tough but in great condition. Fairways offer tough conditions for stance, ball was either above or below your feet. This was a great value and great up north golf course without the up north price. staff was great. Some holes even offered a nice view. I'd definitely play again when in the area.

Played here last weekend and really enjoyed the course. It was hot and the beers were cold. If you're playing this course and play the white tees move back one set.
